Hi!
I'm Janis, 28 years old and was born and raised in Hamburg.

At least after being on an exchange-year in Panama during school, my interest in getting to know other countries and cultures and be with people from all over the world was awakened.

After graduating from school an travelling through Latin America again, I bought an old VW-Van and traveled with two friends through Europe for 8 months. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life! After that I startet studying music and philosophy in Hamburg, playing mainly the piano, but also electric guitar, singing and a little bit of drums. During my studies I went on exchange to Odense in Denmark to study jazz piano and composition, where I finally lived for two years.

Since 2015 I'm back in Hamburg doing my masters degree, playing, producing or writing music.

I love to be with people, being in nature, find out about things or being in the kitchen and preparing nice vegetarian meals.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I currently sold my VW-Van after nearly 10 years and would like to make different experiences now while travelling. At all my travels I have always wanted and always tried to get into the country and get to know the "real" culture directly, instead of staying at a touristic hotel or place where you couldn't really say from the inside, if you are actaully in Turkey, Greece, Spain, Italy, Cuba or whatever...
I love the idea of couch-surfing, because it supports this meeting with the locals, besides it is a much less commercial idea but a great idea of sharing, what there is in the world, wheather it's a couch or life interests and experiences.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love a lot of jazz music, but also almost everything that grooves (I am playing in a funk band). I have a background in Hip Hop and still love nice beats, whether electronical dance music or chillout Hip Hop. But I am widely open for a lot of music and can very often find great things in a lot of songs. What is difficuilt to me is, when music is absolutely meaningless or not-authentic, but pretending to be ; )
I love Pink Floyd, The Beatles, much of the music from the 70ties, Bill Evans, Keith Jarret, Brad Mehldau, Errol Garner, Oscar Peterson, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Nils Petter Molvær, Tower of Power, The Brecker Brothers, Nils Landgren, Jackson 5, Vulfpeck, Tom Waits, Stevie Wonder, Jacob Collier just to name VERY few . . . ;)

I love movies, also because I like to compose film music. So movies with great scores from John Williams, Howard Shore, John Powell, Alexandre Desplat are highly liked from my side, but I also love films with non-orchestral music like Victoria, Requiem for a dream and those kinds.
I am a big fan of Twin Peaks!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When you experience, that life or your travels for example always will be turn out somehow or you land up somewhere in a totally crazy or fantastic situation and wonder, where you are and how you got there. Let's talk about those stories when we meet ;)

Teach, Learn, Share

I guess I can teach some instrumental skills on the piano, guitar, electric bass and voice. I can also teach something about music production.
I can show, how to bake your own bread with sourdough ;)
Ans I have spend a lot of time on learning how to move your body, so that you get a lot of possible, but often unused movements refreshed again. This includes also very effective stretching exercises, which can not only lead to a liberation of body movements but also getting you painless from almost any kind of muscle or joint paint.

I am open to learn almost everything! Whether it is something practical like working with wood, conctruct, doing electronics or something artistic, social or whatever! If you burn for something, I would be glad if you share it with me!
