About Me

CURRENT MISSION

sharing och collecting experiences from all over the world, and using them to make this a better place for all of us :)

ABOUT ME

Boundaries have always fascinated me. Well, ever since I was just a few years old and my mother started taking me and my brother on trips around Scandinavia. During those travels, I saw so many differences between people, language, nature and culture - but I never saw any connection to the national boundaries, quite the opposite!
In early years, I realised that all limitations and boundaries (between nature-culture, different social status, national borders and so much more...) are ideological, biased and man-made. This was the foundation of the holistic way of thinking I so much identify with nowadays, and I have always tried to keep that in mind when encountering something new. It is up to yourself to set the limitations and differences! Even though I can also get stuck in the swamp of clichées sometimes, I try to challenge borders and gratuitous templates of how our society and its inhabitants 'should' act and work, especially if I don't agree with them!

Now don't be scared; this might sound radical but I am nevertheless a pretty ordinairy and sympathetic girl that smiles a lot and is easy to get along with! Even with all these crazy revolutionary thoughts in my head ;)

Because of all my volontary work I hardly have any income and I'm basically always short of money. This is great in a way, since it has helped me to defeat some of these totally unnecessary needs that our world is so full of! :)

I always write references and, as with the couch requests, they tend to get a bit too long sometimes... But they are always honest.

PHILOSOPHY

Right now I long to live the simple life; doing what is important, being clear and honest towards myself and others and hang out with people I like. I'm not much of a planning person, and although that I'm not the most extreme spontaneous type either I find that the best things always happen when following your impulses - they always tell you what you really want and feel without compromising.
All people have their unique history and something to tell - our world is full of experience and opportunities that are just waiting to be discovered!

When communicating spiritual, wise and good things (even at times when it's just a reminder for myself to breath) I try to think in Toki Pona. Toki Pona is the language of simplicity, based on the philosophical ground of Taoism and a truly beautiful language.
You can look it up yourself at http://www.tokipona.org/
My couchsurfing name is in Toki Pona and means 'little mermaid' (jan - person, Kala - fish, lili - small)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My couchsurfing started out with hearing about it from a close friend, and he actually particularly advised me to look it up, since he knew that I love meeting new people with different backgrounds and experience. That was some years ago... I've hosted a few times and been staying at others' places a bit more. But I will try to make up for that in the near future :)

Interests

Politics, environmental issues, student life-style, trains...
I'm a 'cold person' (physically, not emotionally) so tend to like things, colours and activities that makes me feel warm. Examples of that are hugging, sauna, tea, warm autumn colours, blankets, sunshine... I also like spending time on appreciating people I like, learning languages and inter-cultures, practicing yoga (not so much anymore), partying and meeting new people! And if we meet you'll find that I've had, and still have, plenty of more interests!

I am currently involved with these campaigns:
Uppsala Student Union - Helping with students influence and sustainability in Sweden's greatest university city!

... and
Powershift Sweden http://powershifteurope.eu/

And yeah, I was also an official delegate and advisor for Sweden to the UN Commission on sustainable Development (UNCSD) 2010, which does have some work with follow-up left still.

Music, Movies, and Books

At the moment my favourite music is 'music without lyrics', if there is such a genre...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I love seeing other people smile!

Teach, Learn, Share

I believe that everyone has something to learn and something to teach, even if it's telling a story or sharing an experience.
I've always had tonnes of interests! So, if you're interested in learning about knitting, Eu-centred politics, environmental strategy and philosophy, partying, different hugging techniques, how to build green roofs, traditional Swedish drinking techniques, Scandinavian history or Toki Pona... Regardless, I might be able to teach you something new or at least offer a new way of seeing things :)
