Über mich

ABOUT ME
I hosted for a while. All my guests were wonderful and i look forward to new ones. But, I have been traveling and the 'inn has been closed' for a while.
Currently, I am not accepting any CS guests. I start a demanding job in a few weeks so hosting would be difficult.
Feel free to contact me about info for NYC or Westchester. I'd be happy to help if I can.

Lots of people say I am funny and I like a good laugh - but not at anyone' else's expense. Don't like mean, in any form. I am a retired teacher who taught Home & Careers/Home Economics for 26 years just outside of NYC.
PLEASE NOTE: I actually live about 25 minutes by train from Grand Central Terminal/Midtown (but computer wouldn't recognize the town so I put in NYC). The trip is not bad at all and you might enjoy the area or traveling around Westchester County and farther upstate if you have some time. It will, however, add about $15 r/t to your day if you do go into NYC. The last train comes from Grand Central around 1:30 AM.
There are plenty of good restaurants and bars within walking distance if you want to explore locally. There are also shops for your everyday needs-grocery, drugstore, banks, doctor etc.
I have a nice 2 bedroom apartment with a great patio and private entrance. Start your day by having breakfast there or wind down in the evening sipping a cocktail while the sunset peeks through the trees.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

I am always ready to meet new friends. I want to help travelers minimize expenses and want to travel this way myself for same reasons.

Interessen

Like everyone on the site (I think) I love traveling - anywhere, anytime. Seeing different art forms, terrains and meeting people, adding experiences to my life - these are reasons I travel.
I have a vintage VW van that I took on a 9 week road trip in 2011 and I can't wait to get in it and go again. Just last July I went to Vermont and met up with over 80 other VWs and their owners for a great campout.
I am hoping to teach abroad so I can see more without having to endure the long flights from NY more than once.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I enjoy a wide range of music, movies, books and am always interested in experiencing new forms of all art.
There is a CD player as well as a turntable available to use, HOWEVER there is no TV. You would be much too busy to have time to watch it anyway. There is WIFI to connect to, though.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Mongolia is the farthest/most unusual destination - not many people have been there, so many who find out that I went are impressed, which is great for conversation.
Bryce Canyon in Utah is the most beautiful natural place that I have seen so far. I hiked down into the canyon years ago and that was quite amazing.
Venice, Italy is magical and I have been numerous times.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I can help you practice your English and maybe you can teach me some - or more - of your language. I can order food and drinks and ask for help in a few but can always learn more.
French, Italian, Spanish and German are all inside of my brain but I am very rusty on all. We Americans don't have as much opportunity to use other languages and, I admit, I too get lazy about it.

Was ich mit Gastgebern teilen kann

I have taken some courses for becoming a tour guide so I have a wealth of information about NYC and the other boroughs. I can provide visitors with a lot of tips and suggestions on how to spend your time in NYC and often without spending a lot. It is VERY easy to spend lots of $$ but also not so difficult to save some, if you know how.

Länder, die ich besucht habe

Australia, Hungary, Italy, Jamaica, Spain, Thailand, Viet Nam

Länder, in denen ich gelebt habe

England, France, Italy, Mongolia
