About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To live honorably.
ABOUT ME
I'm a father of two lovely boys, and so don't get to travel quite as much as I once did (and want to again), but I love meeting people when I do get the chance to roam. I am a college professor and summer camp director, so I get to meet a lot of terrific people that way as well, and I often stay very close with my former students, and will travel with them or to visit them. I live in Brooklyn, NY most of the year, where I can travel between cultures on the bus or subway, or by walking a few blocks. New York is a great adventure, and I hope to host some couchsurfers here soon. My girlfriend describes me as a "badass hipster," which I'm not at all sure is a compliment, but feels like it has a certain ring of truth.
PHILOSOPHY
I am relatively iconoclastic, but don't force it down anybody's throat. I have plenty of conservative and/or non-philosophical friends, but if you are the type of person who likes to talk ideas and play with radical thoughts, I'll gladly spend an indefinite amount of time dong so, and I bet I have at least one view that you'll find challenging.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
A former student turned me on to CS after the intensive travel part of my life was already past (and future), so I've been able to participate little to date. But I follow the NE PA CS community (I have a place out there that is great for surfing when I'm actually able to be there), and I'm looking forward to meeting people from the NYC and DC communities.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies not so much, but books and music are an avalanche. I listen to audiobooks when traveling, and go through an annual subscription to Audible.com in 6 months. Fiction and non, popular science writing (physics, psychology), and sci-fi is a particular addiction. Music right now is: Foals (lots of Foals!), Architecture in Helsinki, Dog is Dead, Local Natives.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I trekked to Amarnath cave, one of the "7 wonders of India." That was pretty amazing. Merce Cunningham once came to see me perform and complimented me afterwords. That was an exquisitely nice moment. I've performed with Robert Ashley, too, on a national satellite broadcast which was a very proud moment for me. I performed for an audience of over 1,000 in Havana, Cuba, which was a thrill. Visiting Lisbon was unspeakably wonderful; not just the city itself and my wonderful hosts, but more the events that lead up to it... Being a parent; that's amazing. And what's happening in my life right now. That's amazing, too...
Teach, Learn, Share
I've been teaching for 17 years; for me teaching is like breathing. I teach a lot of ensemble-building and collaboration techniques from the performing arts, many aspects of television production, multimedia computing for artists, and anything in the entertainment technology area (lighting, sound, MIDI, projection, &c...)
