About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Sailing and protecting the climate

ABOUT ME

I am an open minded person and I love to travel the world but I also love the part of Germany where I live and grew up, the northern part. I chose Hamburg because to me it is the perfect combination of urban life, proximity to the sea and a city with a lot of open space thanks to the river Elbe with its real beach where you can go swimming and the Alster lake.

PHILOSOPHY

I like to live, and I do not mind to work for my living, but I will not live to work. I think it is becoming more and more important that we respect our personal regional cultural roots in this more and more globalised world. The exchange and interaction and mixing of cultures is important, new cultures evolve and at the same time we have the solid base of our background.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hosted and surf myself, I donated and by the word of mouth I help spreading this wonderful idea of which I think it can make the world more peaceful because it brings people closely together and by this points of view can be exchanged. In this ever faster moving world where hotels, cars, restaurants, cafe´s become uniform no matter where in the whole wide world you are, we are all looking to meet individuals and at the same time to get a real access to the place you visit, not just through the window of a sightseeing-bus.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed in Stockholm, Dublin and Edinburgh where I met very nice and open people and I hosted Germans, Americans, Indians, Poles and Australians, all of them very interesting people to talk to and to spend time with. For me it is important to host intersting people so that both sides can gain from the time spent together.

Interests

I am intersted in sailing, theatre, cinema, politics and people in general. My special interest is sustainable transport and protection of the environment in general.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing was to climb onto the Brandenburger Tor during Sylvester 1989/1990 which was the first Sylvester after the Berlin Wall came down. My cousin and I managed to climb along the rain drainage and ladder onto the roof and enjoyed the view from the Quadriga. To me this was the real re-unification of east and west Germany.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a sailor so I can teach navigation and boat handling, crew management, maintenance of boats and other mobile vehicles. I am a Jack of all trades but a master of none when it comes to crafts. So I can fix a electric lamp but not an electric cooker, I can fix bicycles and to some degree older cars, but not modern cars, I can build fences, plaster walk ways, chop wood, dig the garden, but I am very bad at growing plants.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my knowledge and interest in sailing, politics, art, theatre and movies. The interest in cooking good food.
