About Me
Growing up, we moved around quite a lot through out the country, as my Dad got transferred a lot with his job in the Banking industry. Born in Kroonstad, we moved from Lichtenburg, to Rustenburg, and back; and then to Kempton Park where I finished Matric.
For the past 7 years I have been residing in Pretoria where I started and finished my studies, and have been working for the past 4 years.
I am a young Interior Architect at quite a big Architectural Firm in Pretoria, South Africa. What does an Interior Architect do, you ask? Well, the profession is still very young, but in short: there was a niche in the Architectural industry for architecture to become more user group focused and orientated (more user-"intimate"), designing for the optimal use of a space, and to meet all the needs of the user, from the average Joe to the physically impaired. In our studies we cover construction, architectural history, interior design, acoustics, lighting, materiality, sustainable architecture, and inclusive design (designing for the physically impaired). Basically, if you were to strip a building of its shell, every single thing on the inside, from walls, doors, floors to ceilings, as well as the decor, forms part of our scope of work.
Now for the early years... I'm one of three children, but: my brother is 18 years older than me, and my sister is 20 years older. I was literally a veeeeerrryyyyy late child. I grew up alongside my brother's and sister's children. So I had a brother and sister, who became also like my second parents, and their children felt like siblings my age. It became a VERY large, complicated family. But I love each person from my parents to the two generations after them a lot!
My parents: they differ in personality like night and day. My Dad has always been a very strict man, being very ambitious and hard-working; whereas my Mom always desired to be a social worker, ended up being part of the medicine industry most of her life though, but has always lived to help others, being very gentle, patient, compassionate, understanding, and sensitive to others' feelings; and I'd like to think sometimes that I got the perfect combination of personalities between my Mom and Dad (I'm not as strict though ;) ).
I'm very adventurous, and enjoy travelling a lot, just me and my dogs (if no one wants to join). I don't care if it's a weekend away to a neighboring town, or if its travelling to a different country. I love people, so where there are people, that's where you'll find me, and where they go or suggest I should go to see or share something they experienced, there I'll go.
Furthermore, I enjoy almost all genres of music, can't play an instrument (learned to play the piano, but have lost the skill due to not practicing), but I enjoy singing still! Can't think of anything better than an open fire on the beach, a guitar and someone playing it, and some singing under the stars...
My first trip overseas was in 2008, when my parents and myself traveled to Australia to go visit my brother and his family, in Cohuna, in the province of Victoria. It was life changing, I immediately fell deeply in love with the country and its people! I will be going to AUS in 2015 again, this time to Brisbane, Townsville and Sydney.
I'm a nature-caring, animal-hugging, people-loving person, who also happens to absolutely above all else love the Lord, Jesus Christ. I started my path and close relationship with the Lord in 2009/2010, and haven't looked back once since then. Now I can testify of each and single second, moment and event where He has helped, provided me with the skills or means to reach out, help others, and grow in any challenge I have taken on.
On the other hand, I am very respectful of other religions, and find them very interesting. I'm a firm believer that without comprehension of other religions, one can't connect on a spiritual level with someone, and discuss matters close to the heart, truly. Knowledge is power. And leading by example is key.
In my travels, I would still like to go see and visit Switzerland, Germany, Scotland, Ireland, India, Chile, New Zealand, Canada, and Central America. But I'm still young, and the world is my oyster! ;)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I would like to meet new people, especially locals to the city where I will be couchsurfing in the future. Also in meeting new people, one gets to see the best of the cities you're visiting, one gets to view the city from the point of view of one's hosts, and based on what they know as a must-see in their country.

Films-(movies I've watched in the past year 2014) Saving Mr Banks, Pad na Jou Hart, Boy in the Striped Pajamas, The Book Thief, Belle, The Hunger Games, Semi-Soet, As it is in Heaven... I also absolutely adore period piece films!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

What I Can Share with Hosts
I can assist with any architectural or decor advice.
I also have a little handy-man on the inside of me, so I can build, fix, or assemble almost anything, provided with the necessary tools.
I enjoy cooking and baking, so it would be an honor to make something for my hosts, or for the visitor surfing my couch.
I'm also a collector of small antique items, and unique vintage looking picture frames and paintings. My collection ranges at the moment (2015) from singles to LP's, a 1980's Polaroid Camera, a 1970/80's wooden roll-up measuring tape, a vintage leather briefcase (my great grandfather's), a leather jewelry box, a carved wooden jewelry box, a 1990's toy train set, a canvas print of a Victorian mistress with a large lacey collar, a leather soldier's hat, a large carved wooden picture frame, oh, and the collection is still to grow extensively :) ;)
