Music, Movies, and Books
My musical habits are odd. My own music, which I perform, is Scandinavian folk music. But I don't listen much to music. Most of the time it distracts me, and I prefer to have my mind free of sounds.
But I have periods when I listen much to Balkan or Latin American music.
The music I listen most to, is classical. If I have to mention a favourite composer, it probably is Shostakovich. But also Renaissance (Byrd, Dawland, Dufay, Lassus and the lot) and Baroque (Bach, Zelenka, Biber, Corelli, Rameau, the Muffats and other strange names), and to a lesser extent, the more well-known music of the Classical and Romantic periods.
I sometimes listen to Jazz (but I know almost nothing about names or styles). In previons life periods I used to listen to blues and rock - but I kind of got discontinued from it.
Movies? I haven't been to a cinema and haven't turned on a TV for two years... My brain doesn't record movies - I can like them, but then after a couple of weeks I have forgotten them.
The same goes for fiction literature, novels etc.
Do you *really* want to know what kind of books have made a profoundt impression on me? OK...
Richard Dawkins: The Ancestor's tale; The God dilusion
Jared Diamond: The third chimpanzee; Collapse; Guns, Germs, and Steel
Steven Jay Gould: several of them
Naomi Klein: The chock doctrine
George Monbiot: The age of consent
... and several others
What I Can Share with Hosts
I mainly offer a place to sleep - the livingroom is yours at night (I retire to my bedroom). My socializing may vary - sometimes I may be busy, both during daytime and evenings, sometimes not; sometimes I'm shy, sometimes not. I'm not always in a very talking mood, but then I might be, if I meet people I connect with. But I promise to be nice and friendly.
I'm not a partying and outgoing type of person, so don't count on that - and I am poor on advice about where to go to experience the night life in the city. So if you are seeking Oslo by night, you have to find out about it on your own :) But I can give advice on usual sights you might want to see in Oslo, and on transportation. And I would love to make you breakfast and/or supper and have a talk.
Why I do this? Mostly I am working at the computer, so sometimes it's just nice to have a human soul just being present in the flat and to care for. But then after having hosted somebody I may decide to take a pause again for a while.
In my mind, I think I prefer couples to solitary guests, as they have each other to talk to - but this definitely isn't always so, it depends on the chemistry... And I prefer short stays of 2-3 nights, as my introvertness then tends to let itself known - but this is also absolutely not always so. So feel free to ask, but then you're at least warned about how I am.
