Overview
About Me
Hé there,
In a nutshell: Spontaneous, cheerful, polite and creative (designer, shifting to illustrator and mural artist).
A traveler full of trust, open and learning (there is so much to learn). Trying to live mindfully - in the moment. While traveling and exploring I became more and more an adventurer, looking for new experiences, teachings, inspiration, impressions and destinations.
Meeting new people, cultures and encountering both 'good' and 'difficult' situations makes grateful, wiser and it gives a lot of energy.
Special travel-memories: India, Iran, Oman, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Hungary and of course Japan.
I was born in The Netherlands, and since March 2016 I have lived in Tokyo, studied Japanese, and started continuously traveling till I reached Thailand in 2020, where I've stayed for 10 months in a Buddhist forest monastery: an inner journey, meditating, living a simple life with daily routine and found more happiness and peace within.
Though I would love to host travelers - hopefully once I've found the place I would like to stay and settle - I am not in the situation to host you at the moment, because the journey is still going on.
... It became a huge nutshell.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Trying to avoid the tourist hotspots and happily meeting new people, the whole experience makes this very interesting and such a refreshing way of traveling.
Learning about your culture, language and to share stories and knowledge. It's wonderful to practice unfamiliar traditions and various ways of life, to get advice from - and explore with you - a local person.
To experience the real India, Nepal, Japan, Africa... etc :) I like the adventure that's called Couchsurfing.
And of course also a bit to save money, but the main reason is to make new contacts and to learn more and more about our amazing world.
Interests
Design (Graphic and Product Design), arts and crafts, painting, food cultures, religions, challenging myself, going out and meeting friends, being active and outside in nature, sports (running, cycling/cycle racing, walking, yoga), healthy happy living:) at the moment trying to become more aware, on the spiritual path.
And - where possible - trying to eat vegetarian.

Music, Movies, and Books
Book: “The power of now”, by Eckhart Tolle and “Autobiography of a yogi”, by Paramahansa Yogananda.
Music (very wide musical taste, old and new, pop, rock, electronic, meditation).
For example: The Kooks, Pearl Jam, Florence and the Machine, Disclosure, Alle Farben, Takashi Kokubo ...many and continuously changing.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The summer of 2014 I was backpacking for one month with a friend. We discovered India and Nepal. It was a great and first adventure out of Europe, with unexpected turns and surprises everyday, experiencing life at its fullest. The most amazing thing about it: it brought and guided me to the path of traveling.
Further, hitchhiking, a lot. Example: hitchhiking from Iran to Istanbul, crossing almost whole Turkey, was super special and great! And the generosity of people worldwide is just so wonderful.
Teach, Learn, Share
Besides I would like to learn a lot about other cultures, religions, food and cooking, traditions, habitats, arts and crafts, languages and life itself, I can share my enthusiasm, experiences, happiness and tell and teach you things about The Netherlands, Japan, ways of traveling. I can share my stories and challenging adventures with you, and the way it has changed me.. hopefully in a good and interesting way :) And last but not least, I would love to help and do some volunteering or making a painting/wallpainting for you.
So we can share experiences, have a good time, make things done and explore the area together if you like.
What I Can Share with Hosts
See above. I especially think my presence and time, hoping to be good company. We can do something together, like cooking and eating, going outside, wandering, learn from each other and so on. We will see, the surprises and unexpected gifts from life.
