I'm from South Africa and I'm currently doing a PhD in mathematical physics at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland! I've been in the UK for 3 years so far and I've tried to take full advantage of the proximity to mainland Europe for travelling to interesting places. I've already visited the Netherlands and the Czech Republic and I have a trip to Poland planned. I've normally stayed in hostels up to this point but I thought it would be interesting to rather stay with locals and get to know their cultures first hand. I've been learning German for 6 years now so staying with someone who speaks German would be a bonus!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While I'm in Europe for my PhD I've decided to travel and get to know locals from different countries. The best way to do that is to immerse myself in their environments by staying with them. Unfortunately since I stay in university accommodation in the UK I am unable to host travellers but I can meet up with you and show you my adopted home city of Edinburgh!

I know A LOT about my home country of South Africa☺️. I'm basically a walking encyclopaedia. If you haven't been able to visit yet I can tell you all about our unique mix of cultures, our history and what makes us awesome! If I wasn't a PhD student I'd be a tour guide! I also love learning new things so I'll probably be asking you all sorts of questions about your town or city and hopefully this won't annoy you too much😅
