About Me

I'm down! I'm up for it! I'm side to side shakin' around, ready to get back out to the never-ending adventures that the world has to offer. I have a vast amount of love and passion for many things and people and I strive to get the most out of this life that I can.

I moved around as a kid, and can't seem to stay still for too long, but I'm a cozy homebody as well. I always appreciate both sides of the grassy metaphorical green; I'd be just as happy spending weeks on a rugged trail, eatin' nuts and rehydrated taters as I would by my fireplace eating some of my homemade bread, watching a funny film, wearing a robe with pictures of bears on it. Similarly I find immense beauty in the yin and yang of the world, and I'll enjoy staring at an untouched mountain range as well as some graffiti art on a dilapidated building in in the smoggy industrial district.

I work in the music industry, I own my own small Video and Audio Production company called Motionsound. I do many various things, one day I might be shooting a music video, another doing video for a band on tour, and another doing a live audio recording for an indie band, hey and some days I don't do ANYTHING!

I have an open mind, I love conversation, I like to play devil's advocate, and I love learning something new every single day.

I don't know if I'll get the chance to do it again, so let's do it NOW!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have traveled a decent amount, and like most wanderlusty dreamers, I am planning to travel a lot a LOT more in the near future. I love to camp and rough it, but I'm beginning to enjoy sharing experiences with new friends more and more. I hope to have a place to offer soon, as I love hosting people, but in the meantime I will hope to bring positive energy, music, and laughter to anybody that wants to hang.

Interests

EVERYTHING EVER!
But really:

Music - Playing music: I play guitar, I sing, I write songs, I record songs, I love recording other people's songs, Listening to Music: from Bluegrass to Hip-Hop to Funk to Classical, tapdancing to yodeling, pop to obscure, I love all types of music, and I love discovering new music. I also enjoy playing harmonica, jawharp, throatsinging, beatboxing, just about anything that I can take traveling that makes a noise.

Cooking - I've always enjoyed it, but the past couple years I've been honing my techniques, I like making everything from scratch and using my mortal pestle and putting love into every dish I make. My Indonesian Curry will make your pants explode.

The Ocean - going to the beach, swimming, surfing (still pretty scrubby), bodysurfing, fishing, kayaking, just about anything related to water I would be down to do any day.

Hiking, Backpacking, Climbing, Longboarding (long skateboards), Whiskey, Bonfires, comedy, Sing-a-longs, reading, making music videos, taking stuff apart, fixing things, building things, growing things. I hope to dabble in as much as I can in my life, and hope to one day consider myself a true Renaissance Homey.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like so much music from around the world, but some of my favorite artists are Sigur Ros, Andrew Bird, and the Shouting Matches.

I read as much as I can, and while I enjoyed reading philosophy and covering all that ground, I love getting lost in Hitchhiker's Guide or Game of Thrones or A Chuck Palahniuk book. The beats, the classics, history, biography. Guns, Germs, and Steel changed my life.

Movies are good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Indonesia, my buddy and I heard about this strange bamboo jaw-harp type instrument that was only left in one small village on the island of Lombok. So we rented motorbikes and set off into the jungle in search of this rare instrument. By asking around, and through a series of wild adventures that would take a hundred little text boxes to do justice to, we found the man who knew what we were talking about. The 'slober'! So he gathered the last 12 men who play this instrument and they gave us a private performance, using interlocking patterns to play these trancey, addicting, one-of-a-kind sounds. They gave us a couple of the wooden jawharps for memory and it sits on my bookshelf, one of the only ones in the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love learning everyday. My mom's side of the family has been in education for generations, so it's in my blood. I like to discuss and try to see every sides of every argument. I don't ever want to just "be right," I'd rather learn how everybody involved thinks than be right. I'll happily look stupid if it means I get to be schooled on an awesome topic.

I could use some gardening tips and I'll teach you anything about history, music theory, random trivia, whatever I'll even take a guess and it will probably be a fun guess!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'll play you a song on my travel guitar, if you play too that's even better let's jam. I'll cook you a meal, what's your favorite meal? Oh yeah? I'll make that shiz from scratch! I have a large network all around the world already and I can give you recommendations or phone numbers for many many cities around the world.

Countries I’ve Visited
