À propos de moi

I am an Aussie, born and bred and I grew up outside the big city in a small coastal town, five or ten minutes from the beach. Although I live in the city now, I have a simple love for a simpler life than I get here, but I love the opportunities that the concrete jungle provides and, of all the concrete jungles in the world, Sydney is a pretty amazing place to kick around.

I am about to finish my second bachelor's degree, studying Biodiversity and Conservation, with an aim to take up a Master's degree in the near future. I have a keen sense of global stewardship and a dedication to global conservation, particularly wildlife; I understand that my future will be full of works of love rather than large paychecks, and I'm pretty okay with that.

I love to meet people who have their own interesting stories from all corners of the globe, near and far, and who are more importantly looking to share those stories over a cup of tea or a cold beer. I try to be a private person on the internet, but come around in person and I'll talk until the sun comes up about life, the universe, and everything.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

I spent a year traipsing through South America, jumping from hostel to hostel and, while the people I met and the experiences I had were top-notch, I sometimes felt as though I was missing out on experiencing the full scope of what each new place had to offer. I would like to change my future experiences for the better by being able to take a more wholesome and immersive approach to my travels, and I would love to be able to help others do the same when they swing by my beautiful city and country.

Centres d'intérêt

I love anything to do with the outdoors, especially bushwalking and overnight hiking. I feel more in touch with myself when I'm surrounded by trees than when I am closed in by concrete.

When I'm feeling creative I love to write short, imaginative pieces imbued with a healthy dose of romanticism, or to take my camera on an outing to capture the birds and the bees (seriously, birds and bees make great subjects).

It goes without saying that travelling is a passion of mine, but it's one I don't get to partake in nearly as often as I would like. I like to travel solo and I like to travel without a plan, and that takes time. I love long trips. I like to get to know a place, and I don't mind spending a few days just walking through the city, becoming familiar, and heading into the mountains (if you've got them).

And if it's made with chilli, coffee, or scotch, there's no power in the 'verse can stop me.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

I'm a tragic for Aussie hip-hop, surf rock, whatever passes as "indie folk-rock", and smooth electro and house at 128bpm. Think Horrorshow, Mat McHugh, Boy and Bear. Throw in some Ice Cube, Van Halen and Phil Collins for roundness.

TV shows are the new movies, and Firefly is my go-to. Closely followed by Archer. Luther. Deadwood. House of Cards. Game of Thrones ...

Just some of the books I still count as favourites, for various reasons and in no specific order: The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie, The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, Cloudstreet by Tim Winton ...

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

When the phrase "the most amazing thing you have ever done" comes up, while there are so many things that could come out of my mouth, my subconscious drives my lips to form the words "Roraima Tepui, Venezuela".

Absolutely nothing else I have been fortunate enough to see has compared to sitting atop Venezuela's world-renowned tabletop mountain, watching a river of clouds cascade down into the valley and flow into Guyana, walking across rose quartz crushed into pink sand, and sitting on the edge of the world, watching the sun set across the Venezuelan savannah. Conan-Doyle was right about it being the Lost World, but it's where I go back to in my mind when I need to find myself.

And if you want a story about the strength of the human spirit, read the "Night" trilogy by Elie Wiesel. It still weighs heavy on my mind.

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

I live with three other people and two huskies, but for one or two nights (at first, of course), given forewarning I can provide a bed (it's a SUPER-comfy camp bed, or the couch if you prefer) and linen, a hot shower, cold beer, and I can even cook a meal or two! I study full-time so my availability is often limited, but please get in touch and I'll be sure to pull out as many stops as I can.
