About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Peace, Love, & Adventure

ABOUT ME

We are both pretty laid-back and enjoy going wherever the winds blow us. We love being around each other and going on adventures together, as well as meeting people that expand our horizons. We met in Utah about 13 years ago, we've been married for about 8 years, and after all this time we are still fond of being around each other :) Our home-base where we hosted several couch-surfers was in Provo, Utah, USA. ***We moved and are in transition, so we are not currently able to host guests.

Jarred grew up in Utah and Oregon. He is a self-taught computer nerd who dabbles in a great variety of online web development projects. He is not fond of working for the man, thus he is working hard while trying to work for himself. He loves games, movies, and beef jerky.

I (Bre) grew up in Wyoming. I recently left my job to go on another one of our amazing road trips. I have a bachelor's degree in recreation therapy and am a certified substance use disorder counselor. I am working on figuring out my passion in life, especially in regards to a job/career. I love adventure and exploring the world around me.

We were both raised in a conservative Christian religion (Mormon/LDS), however a few years ago we left the religion of our childhoods (as well as all organized religion as a whole). This tradition significantly shaped our world view and we really enjoy meeting new people with different perspectives and experiences because we feel it helps broaden the world view given to us by our upbringing. As such, we enjoy having conversations about religion/morality/philosophy/life/meaningful things and trying to understand new perspectives/ideas. That being said, we do not like to bash on other people's ideas and beliefs, but it is very interesting for us to hear the stories and experiences of others. We appreciate hearing about what others believe, why they believe it, and why it works for them. This is not the only thing we like to talk about; in fact, it might not even come up, but we just want to put it out there in case anyone is interested. [We understand that it is often socially taboo in some cultures to talk about religion/beliefs, but it is incredibly interesting to us, so please don't be offended if we seem overly eager to talk about it and, of course, we will do our best to be courteous of your boundaries.]

PHILOSOPHY

"Be kind, for everyone is fighting a hard battle." ~Plato

"The cosmos may be densely populated with intelligent beings. But the Darwinian lesson is clear: There will be no humans elsewhere. Only here. Only on this small planet. We are a rare as well as an endangered species. Everyone of us is, in the cosmic perspective, precious. If a human disagrees with you, let him live. In a hundred billion galaxies you will not find another." ~ Carl Sagan

"Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods." ~Albert Einstein

"The more we take, the less we become." ~Sarah McLachlan

"Be aware of wonder. Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some." ~Robert Fulghum

Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true. [paraphrased] ~Buddha

"All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them." ~Galileo

"It is far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring."
~Carl Sagan

"I remember, head down,
After you had found out
Manna is a hell of a drug
And I need a little more, I think
Because enough is never quite enough
What's enough?"
~I Can Feel a Hot One, by: Manchester Orchestra

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Host and surf :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed a few times and hosted as much as possible (we don't live in a very touristy place, but there are still lots of great adventures to have around here). All have been wonderful experiences!

We surfed in Maine and Texas on our 3 month road trip around the USA. You can check it out on our blog if you are interested. http://roadtrip-usa.info/

We recently went to Europe for 3.5 months (summer 2014) and although we didn't couch surf, we were able to use AirBnB a few times. You can check out our wonderful adventure here http://pica-map.appspot.com/ if you are interested (this site is a work in progress and takes a little bit to load, so hopefully someday we can finish up this project).

We also just used AirBnB in Singapore and Japan, but haven't made a blog about it. We enjoy those personal-type accommodations.
