About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To take my Spanish from principiante to experto!

ABOUT ME

It goes without saying that I love to travel since I'm here on CouchSurfing. In middle school, my dad started training to become a travel agent, and the perk was that he often brought the family along. First trip was a western Caribbean cruise, and I was addicted.

I enjoy meeting new people, seeing new things, and generally learning something new every day. I'm a software developer, so emerging technology and gadgets are my cup of tea. There's almost no greater high for me than being in a place for the first time with nothing on the agenda but what I make of it.

PHILOSOPHY

Time seems to pass more slowly when it's filled with interesting and novel experiences, so I'm doing my best to make time stand still.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far, I've been fortunate enough to have been hosted in three cities, and I hope to one day be able to return the favor when I return home from my travels and once again have a couch to call my own.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed with my first CS hosts during a trip to Chicago in the fall of 2012, and it was really amazing to meet such kind people willing to open their homes to me without knowing me from a hole in the ground. That sort of generosity is contagious. Afterward, I went to a few CS meetups and events, including a weekly 5k running group at my alma mater.

At the moment, I'm traveling throughout South America for six months, and in Lima, I had my first international CS experiences, including the Mistura food festival and a Novalima concert. After seeing the price differences in hostels in Chile compared to those in Bolivia, I decided to resume CouchSurfing again in Argentina and have been lucky enough to meet some amazing hosts.

Movies: Sooo hard to choose, but some of my favs are TiMER, Pleasantville, The Sixth Sense, Inception, The Fifth Element, and Coming to America.

Music: Spotify changed my life, lol. Fav artists are Radiohead, Esperanza Spalding, The Neighbourhood, Dwele, Stevie Wonder, Sia, Bilal, D'Angelo, Tingsek, Robert Glasper, and Quantic. But I pretty much listen to everything from Argentine folklore to Kiwi R&B to French hip-hop, so please introduce me to your fav tunes.

Books: "Learned Optimism" - Martin Seligman, "Ender's Game" - Orson Scott Card, "Moonwalking With Einstein" - Joshua Foer, "Pillars of the Earth" - Ken Follett

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Venice, Italy was probably one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The people were incredibly warm, the food was divine, and the architecture was beautiful.

One of my best travel moments was at a basketball court in Puerto Rico. I was just starting to learn Spanish at the time, and my friends and I got into a conversation with some of the local kids. Although we were communicating in the little bits of Spanish/English that each of us knew, somehow we understood each other and realized that jokes and a good time could transcend language barriers.

Teach, Learn, Share

I took Spanish throughout high school and a few classes in college, but I'm trying (slowly) to become fluent. I'd love to meet someone that wanted to do a English-Spanish language exchange.

I'm also pretty technologically savvy, so I'd be willing to teach computer skills, get rid of trojans, set up your webcam, or solve any other random computer-related dilemma you have.
