Overview
About Me
I'm a pretty quiet and easygoing person, really. Not a party animal, though - far prefer an intimate chat with one or two people in a quiet pub to a huge crowd where everyone's going crazy.
I have a fondness for geeky things (sci-fi and fantasy books and movies/tv, for instance) and absolutely love big in-depth discussions on the merits and otherwise of such things. Don't get me started on The Last Jedi though - you'll be there all day!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I live alone in Edinburgh, which is a bit of an isolating city at times. So couchsurfing seems like a good way to have a bit of company and meet new people, without all the associated hassles of having a permanent flatmate. It's a win/win, really. Plus there's always the chance I'll get to stay somewhere nice in return, too!
Interests
As mentioned above, big on sci-fi and fantasy. I also like messing about on Photoshop, political/philosophical debates (amateur level, of course!), learning about new people, and wandering the city in a gently aimless fashion while listening to music.

Music, Movies, and Books
Authors: Terry Pratchett, Haruki Murakami, Douglas Coupland, Scarlett Thomas, Christopher Moore, Neil Gaiman. Recently discovering Margaret Atwood and Kurt Vonnegut and wondering why I've not read more of their work before.
Movies: Star Wars (original trilogy especially), Alien/Aliens, Robocop, Mary & Max, Wall-E, most of the cheesy superhero films of late, around 50% of the Coen Brothers movies (Fargo = awesome, Big Lebowski = awful, for instance). Quite open to anything other than utterly miserable films - I like a bit of escapism.
Music: Good post-rock (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, for instance), Radiohead, Belly, Portishead, Yoko Kanno. Basically anything good!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Seeing lightning shoot down the centre of the Grand Canyon was pretty cool!
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm a great listener (I have to be - it's a large part of both jobs that I work, and my eventual career objective to be a teacher), and very non-judgemental. So I'm always happy to share advice and listen to stories.
I'm also decent with Photoshop and computers in general, and an excellent punsmith.
I'd really like to learn another language, but I'm honestly absolutely hopeless with them. Studied Japanese for six months and can only say "Watashi-wa Nihongo-ga makari wa sen" - which means "I don't understand Japanese." Admittedly this is a useful phrase to know if someone is speaking in Japanese at me!
