About Me

To summarise yourself in one piece is not easy when you have so many 'about me's'. As a person I am a fun, friendly and inquisitive guy that enjoys traveling and experiencing/seeing new ways of life around the world. I love to meet new local people and share experiences/stories about travels and gain insight into the real living of local areas as opposed to just seeing/staying at tourist destinations.

I am fascinated about religion, traditions, rituals, culture and other ways of life outside of England. I love to learn about religious beliefs and what this means to people on a day to day basis, this further expands my open mind to how we all see life and the potential afterlife. I love a good deep conversation about this to broaden my understandings and challenge any possible preconceptions I have from being a westerner and having a terrible media feeding me biased information.

Landscapes, scenery and geology give me a sense of wonder. To see the our earths natural states is enriching and powerful. I have discovered on my journey that I have a deep love of volcanoes, waterfalls, mountains, lakes and unusual geology. This list grows ever time I see a new wonder. I have a love of nature but sometimes the rawness of a jungle where our 8 legged friends reside can put me off...

Enjoyable activities for me range from a quiet walk in nature, exploring ancient monuments, temples and buildings, adrenaline adventures to challenge my fears and feel alive, relaxing spa based activities (it cant all be about culture and moving quickly) and of course a nice beach.

I am trying to find balance and harmony within myself by achieving a sense of peace in my mind, to do this I am learning about mindfulness, meditation, Buddhist/Hindu teachings and yoga etc. So any teachings/insight new people have on this helps me on my journey, likewise if I can share my knowledge it is a wonderful thing. I would probably define myself as more spiritual in beliefs, this merged with a bit of metaphysics and a love of the book 'The Secret'. If you have read the secret I would love to hear your experiences of this and how it has changed your life...

For work I have a small recruitment company back in England helping people to find office and labour based employment. I do this because I have a desire to help people wherever I can and this career helps me to earn money out of peoples happiness and opportunity. I get to help people shape and develop their careers and considering people spend the majority of their life inn their job environments, it gives me great satisfaction to know I have helped them move forwards into a more fulfilling day to day set of tasks.

I am a gay guy, not that this is a defining feature but just want to get it out there... part of my adventure is to meet other local gay people and understand life from your perspective because the world has so many different experiences for gay people.

Currently traveling around the world in an 18 month solo world adventure. I Set off in December 2017 and plan to return back to England around July 2018. This trip will see 5 of the 7 continents.

I am looking forward to meeting you, hearing about your way of daily life and sharing stores.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting new people and making friends around the world. Couchsurfing allows me to share the stories about my travels and knowledge of the world, whilst growing and developing my open mind to new cultures, ways of life and experiences,

Couchsurfing enables me to connect with people like you to see the world through your personal experiences and open my sight further. If you book a hotel or hostel you do not get this ability to see, experience and live life like a true local.

life is about sharing, growing and developing. I would like to stay with people all over the world and in return when I am back in England share my spare room with fellow globe trotters.

Music, Movies, and Books

Wide music taste form pop, house, classical, r&b and a little bit of rock.

Films are rom com, sci-fi, thrillers and any kind of film that isn't westerns/war based ones.

Books, I like a bit of fiction/epic fantasy to lose myself in something not the 100% reality we live in - I love Terry Good kinds books and also Dan browns. A book that made a great change in my mind-set to life is The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. If you have read/follow this I would love to discuss your personal experiences further.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Book and travel a solo around the world adventure, visiting 5 of the 7 continents as part of a career sabbatical. This journey includes countries such as: North India, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, USA, South America, Dubai and aiming to finish crossing Europe.

Funded by setting up a small recruitment business in 2005 and building a wonderful team of people dedicated to helping people find their next career step, focused on giving honest advice. Not many people can say their money is earned from peoples happiness and continued opportunity.

Teach, Learn, Share

We all have an abundance of personal experiences, stories and advice so lets teach, learn and share together

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories of my world travel adventures so far. These include seeing North India with it's rich culture and heritage. I have seen many temples in India including the Kharma Sutra temples, the Taj Mahal and drank Chai whilst watching the Hindu ceremony on the river Ganges.
I have stood under the Petronas towers and climbed the many steps at Batu Caves Kuala Lumpur.

The sights and wonders of doing a bus tour through Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. Visiting many temples, caves, waterfalls and natural wonders, as well as a diverse set of cultures. Who knew Cambodia has some of the most beautiful beaches in SE Asia... I fed, mud bathed and washed elephants rescued from a cruel background. Slow boated down the Mekong Delta in Laos to see some stunning mountain ridges, saw first hand the effects of a hidden war on Laos making it the most bombed county per capita ever, visited Angkor Wot and saw the sun rise above her majestic ancient Kymer towers, moped rode through Phong Nha national park in Vietnam and cruised around Halong bay. I have both seen and swam in some stunning waterfall sights in SE Asia and even group skinny dipped through a cave system into a small lagoon in Vietnam.
I have swam in the warm seas on the Cambodian island of Ko Ta Kiev in a thunder and lightning storm at night, amongst the bio luminescent plankton illuminating our every move in the water under a full moon.

A brief visit to Singapore where I stood under the man made forest of lights, powered purely by solar energy as I watched the delights on a night time sound and visual show after walking though biospheres that maintain a cloud rain forest Eco culture and indoor waterfall, as well as plants/trees from all over the world.

I visited the south east islands of Koh Tao and Koh Phangan in Thailand, gaining my PADI open water certification in Koh Tao (cheapest place to get this) and dove to 16 metres seeing an array of sea life.

I have spent 3 months in Indonesia and travelled through Bali and its wonders from Sacred Monkeys Forests, temples in the sea and stunning sunsets in beautiful beaches. To then visit Lombok and mount Rinjani, swimming in infinity pools overlooking a volcano, rainforest, valley and sea all in one panoramic vista. Visited the paradise island of Gili Meno and spent my birthday in a bamboo beach bungalow overlooking the most stunning view and white coral beaches. Snorkelling here was with majestic sea turtles.

I visited Jogjakarta in Java and saw the sun rise over the volcano, mountain range and jungles. Visited the Borobudur Buddhist temple (largest in the world) and Prambanan Hindu temple complex, watching the sun set over the ornate stone monoliths.

Sumatra has been the stunning island of Pulah Weh with the wealth of stunning beaches and rain forest mountain ranges, swam in hot springs on the side of an active smoking volcano and relaxed at Lake Toba, the largest volcanic created lake in the world (100km x 30km).

These are just some of this things I have done up to August 2017 and I am only 7 months into a 18 month trip.

Cambodia, Curaçao, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Italy, Laos, Malaysia, Scotland, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, Viet Nam, Wales
