Overview
About Me
Firstly, I'm pretty short, towering at a staggering 5ft7. However, I can grow a solid beard which almost makes up for it. Second, having lived in South Africa, Australia, Norway and Belgium I have a pretty mutated accent (although most non-Australians would say it is Australian). I can be a bit silly at times and love to laugh (more often than not at my self). I'm easy going, open minded and up for doing almost anything at least once. I met my partner, Aran, while we were living in Norway and over the last four years we have tried to travel whenever we could, to wherever we could. Although, much to her dismay I have yet to learn her native language Spanish (my bad, seriously). I have studied both Law and Philosophy and aim to have a career in academia, hoping one day to settle down in Scandinavia somewhere.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
There are two reasons: the practical and the personal. The practical side is that I am a student and live off a very tight budget that does not easily accomodate my desire to travel. On the personal side, I have found that visiting countries where I know people can be a very different and rewarding experience as you get to fully emerge yourself in their culture and habits and gain a proper appreciation for the place. Couchsurfing perfectly combines these, making travel more affordable while also gifting you with a local guide, a friend, with whom to experience a place.
Interests
Philosophy is a passion of mine. I am about to start my PhD in Munich, Germany where my focus is on applied ethics and moral philosophy. I will be researching the overlap of Global Justice and Legal Concerns with the debate on Human Enhancement Technologies.
Second I love music (mostly folk) and playing my guitar, but I wouldn't put you through my singing. Aran and I love to experiment in the kitchen trying new and different meals often looking for non-meat alternatives. So if you are brave enough, we are more than happy to cook for you (although we'd love to learn how to make your local cuisine). We also love to snowboard when we can afford to get to the slopes and, recently, have really gotten into open water scuba diving. Finally, we are always looking to travel, to get off the beaten path and meet new people.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Personally, the most amazing thing I have done was move to Europe to be with Aran and pursue my postgraduate and now doctoral education in Philosophy despite urges to continue my Law career in Australia. In terms of adventure, hot air ballooning in Cappadocia with my family in 2015 and skydiving with my mum in Slovenia ranks pretty highly. As does snorkeling with turtles in Indonesia with Aran, snowboarding with her in Norway, and our campervan trips around Australia, New Zealand and Iceland. Got up to some pretty fun things in South Africa with my twin sister including diving with great whites sharks and fresh water crocodiles, riding Ostriches and bungee-jumping off Bloukrans Bridge. One of my toughest experiences was working the Northern Territory in Australia for 6 weeks planting trees. Such a harsh and beautiful environment with the strangest wildlife, hundreds of kilometres from civilisation or technology. The sheer contrast in weather during the wet season is something you have to experience, just picture 35-40 degree heat and within seconds a huge storm will roll over you drenching you with water only to disappear without a trace minutes later. There is just so much to experience.
