ABOUT ME
Living each day as if it were my last yet planning on living them as long as I can! “No Day but today” & "Carpe Diem" are mantras firmly embedded to who I am. Bottom line--I'm a passionate person...I don't half-ass anything...I'm completely in something or completely out, but I love to be all in. An extremist of sorts—an all or nothing approach to life I guess. I think today it’s rare to find people passionately involved in both their work and their play and I feel fortunate that I am able to do that.
Over the years I’ve bounced around quite a bit from being the Children's program manager for a multi-language learning center where I developed curricula and created programming for their core kids’ languages (Spanish, French, Italian, German, & Chinese) to teaching K-8th grade Spanish a private catholic where I designed a school based Spanish curriculum. Currently I’m focusing my energies in the family business—something I’ve always wanted to do but the timing was never quite right! I also have coached and have run both successful boys and girl’s gymnastics programs over the years and now I find myself back to coaching full time after a few years of just coaching part-time! Needless to say, don’t get me started on my family, language, travel, culture or gymnastics as I could go on for hours—I love them all that that much.
Naturally that zest for life carries on into other aspects as well, usually more for a benefit, though when I'm playing board games, however, some would disagree! My interests are always in a constant flux...never quite able to pin them down...basically I loathe boredom...my dad always taught me that idleness is of the devil...and though I've separated myself far from my Mormon roots...I still believe that one should never be idle and it's to that adage I adhere...or maybe it's just self-medicated adult ADHD.
Interessen
Anyroad, during the week...I find myself running daily...working out at the gym three or four times (the gymnastics gym that is, where I am currently training to compete floor and vault as a specialist--winter 2011) and in August of 2011. In September of 2011 I auditioned for Cirque du Soleil and heard back from them Feb of 2012! I’ve been named to their talent database and am anxiously awaiting to here which show I’ll be cast in!! I am a big fan of Bikram Yoga and try to fit in a class in once a week...it gets tricky though! I ran a handful of half marathons in 2011 and am currently training for the Akron Full Marathon in the fall of 2012! My newest endeavor though is to build up to an Iron man so I’m am trying to swim when I get the chance to! I play the piano a bit every day. I read about once a week...usually a nonfictional book (they're easier to pick up and put down…though I’m a huge fan of classical fiction and Ayn Rand) I love to perform and average about three shows a year! In 2010 you could see me on stage in Cabaret, Seussical, & Brigadoon—loved all three of them for different reasons! For 2011 you were able to find me in a production of Chess, Hairspray and A Man of No Importance. And for 2012 I cartwheeled across the stage in Alexander and The Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day. My last show for 2012 will most likely be Bare as I’m in desperate need of a break! I love Gadgets, from palm pilots to the latest iPhone/iPad to a couple of computers...they fascinate me and every time one arrives it feels like Christmas Morning (Ha--I buy a new laptop yearly!!) ...I love feeling like Remington Steel or James Bond (when it comes to gadgets that is) Cars, however, another story. Let's just say I "lease" a new to me old car about once a year (that's about how long they last before something dramatic happens to them) :) I go through spells where I like to write, sometimes poetry other times little vignettes, other times...well...even Ashley (an English major) has no idea what genre they'd belong to. I sing a lot...car belting I suppose...you know when the windows are down, you are listening to a song that you can’t help but sing at the top of your lungs wondering if the car in front of you can hear you? Sometimes I think that they can! ;) Traveling and Language acquisition are deep passions for me; I lived in Colombia, South America for two years right out of high school which lead to a major paradigm life shift. It's funny, it takes being displaced from my comfort zones and surrounded by people very much like myself to really connect and know myself which lead me to finally being able to truly connect with others. I love meeting quirky people and learning their Lang. (either their personal spin on the English Language or indeed a foreign one) and of their culture and background—I eat it up. Finally, despite being atheist, I still find religious discussions to be fun and I'll happily engage in one if the people that begin it are capable of keeping their emotions in check. :)
