About Me
Let me start by correcting/expanding on my 'Occupation:' I went to school for acting, and spent some time in the industry, working mainly in theater, while living in Toronto. I'm not actively pursuing acting now, but might again in the future. I did make some decent money acting, but usually had to supplement my income with various side jobs. The last job I worked in Toronto was for a pet care company, mostly walking dogs, but also working with puppies, cats, and other pets. I've had jobs all across the spectrum, from marketing to bartending.
I recently (see: yesterday) received a five-year work Visa for the UK, and will likely be seeking employment there in the coming months. I expect to end up with a minimum wage job in the service industry or menial labor work, and currently have an unimpressed expression on my face whilst typing that fact.
I left Canada because over the course of the past several years, life kept handing me lemons and I was sick of making lemonade. I decided to put an end to a long series of unfortunate events and walk away.
After selling my house and paying off debts I found myself with a little money left over, so before settling down and working I'm doing a little travelling. However, I've quickly discovered that just about everything, everywhere in Europe, is much more expensive than in Canada. So here I am, on couchsurfing.com! Accept me!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Hmm. Possibly I should've read the title of this section before writing my 'About Me.'
Interests
Before leaving North America I would religiously check the news. Usually cycling between Drudge Report (right-leaning) and Huffington Post (left leaning.) I tend to always have one or two current events I'm following. I think my lack of interest in being a sports fan sublimated into watching news events as others watch sports. I'm actually excited to find time to sit down and watch the last American Republican primary debate that happened last night.
In gaming, I prefer strategy games. Board games like Settlers of Catan, video games like Starcraft, etc.
I love exploring taboo subjects, but keep my mouth shut about them around strangers.
Recently I discovered the phenomenon of 'battle rap' and spent far too many hours watching battles from the various leagues around the world on YouTube.
I like to stay in relatively good shape, which I've found to be a challenge so far while travelling (there are parts of Scotland where it seems a vegetable can't be found, and the drink is often overwhelmingly tempting)
I could keep listing things at random but let's move on.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: this app http://www.last.fm/user/treasurebox has tracked my music listening for much of the past decade, so feel free to take a look!
Movies: depending on my mood I would either list:
a) Inland Empire, Enter the Void, Pi
or b) 21 Jump Street, Bat Man: Dark Knight Rises, Freddy Got Fingered
Books: I used to read a lot, now not so much, but my favorites were... Tropic of Cancer, Tao Te Ching, and The Autobiography of Malcolm X
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Not to sound corny, but looking back on my life it's all pretty amazing. Hard to choose one thing. Let's go with this: I wrote, produced, directed, and starred in Toronto's first hip-hop musical when I was around 23.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm not sure what the meaning of this dubious section title is. 'Teach, Learn, Share'? I would think it means to ask what I can/want to teach, learn, and share with hosts, but the next box is about sharing with hosts so it must mean something else.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm not the most cultured person. Beyond following recipes I'm a terrible cook. I can't sing or dance. But I'm 6'1, in relatively decent shape, and marginally handy, so I can do any hard labor or work around the house that needs to be done.
