Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

To meet people around the world, to practice/learn new languages, to see the world, and to love life and live it to the fullest!

ABOUT ME

Open-minded person and adventureous; excited to explore the world and meet a lots of different people. I'm currently a U.S. student completing an internship abroad and traveling and learning as much about languages, cultures and people as possible along the way! I am open and friendly and like meeting new people and learning from them as well as teaching anything they want me to share with them.

PHILOSOPHY

Carpe Diem: see and experience as much of the world as possible through traveling, music, food, languages, and most importantly, through all the people you meet along the way!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Since I am a university student working abroad, I am living in someone else's home so my couch is currently not available, but when I get my own place, people are definitely welcome to stay! (However, I would obviously like to get to know someone at least by a couple personal messages back-and-forth over CouchSurfing/Facebook.) Also, I would love to meet anyone for a coffee sometime if you are in my area and show you around the city as I really enjoy meeting new people from around the world. Most of all, when I travel it would be nice to meet and spend time with locals there and perhaps stay on their "couch" for a night if they are willing to let me :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Incredible! The first time I CouchSurfed was in Monaco and it was great! My host picked me up from the train station and drove me to his house where I had my own huge room with my own bathroom and a balcony overlooking the ocean where we had dinner and wine! He had a "guest laptop" for me to use throughout my stay. But I think the most fun experience was in Lanzarote, Canary Islands where I got to meet locals who lived there their whole lives as well as expats and they showed me all over the island and we had a lot of fun hanging out on the boat; incredible hospitality! Knock on wood, but I have never had a bad experience; they've all been really great!

Interessi

Two of my greatest passions are music and languages. I love almost all types of music and like being exposed to new, different, world music, too. I like to dance (for fun, I'm not good haha) including, but not limited to, salsa, club/discotheque music and any other dance someone is willing to teach me! I also play piano (almost any kind of music, but jazz is difficult for me) and love to collaborate and play with other musicians/singers and to attend any type of musical show, from operas to musicals and from symphonies to rock concerts. As I stated above, I LOVE languages and am always excited to learn as much as I can about any language and I love being able to practice the languages I'm learning. I also have many more interests but I think this is already long enough haha...

Musica, film e libri

I like all types of movies, but some of my favorites include La vie en rose (La Môme), musical movies (Chicago, Sweeney Todd, Moulin Rouge!), anything by Pedro Almodóvar (Volver, Los abrazos rotos), and others. Probably the only types of films that others like that I do not are Monty Python; I just don't understand the humour and don't really enjoy it like othe people do.

All kinds of music including Top 40's, but to name a few of my favorite artists: Shakira, J. Balván, Don Omar, Wisin y Yandel, Céline Dion, Édith Piaf, Ella Fitzgerald, Fleetwood Mac. Coldplay, Adele, Aerosmith, Zaho, Goo Goo Dolls, Genesis, Regina Spektor, Silbermond, and much much more. (Classical to musicals to oldies to jazz to Top 40s, etc.)

I like to read mainstream books (Harry Potter, Da Vinci Code, The Hunger Games) as well as classics (The Grapes of Wrath, The Catcher in the Rye, anything by Mario Vargas Llosa and Gabriel García Márquez), and documentary/informational-type books about philosophy and culture (The Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama; Pop Culture in the Muslim World; Reconciliation: Islam, Democracy and the West by Benazir Bhutto; Indignez-vous by Stéphane Hassel; Holocaust books; and some poetry.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

One of the most amazing experiences of my lifetime so far has been to travel to Guatemala and work with Hábitat para la Humanidad (Habitat for Humanity) to build a house for a needy family. Also, I went on a cruise to Bermuda, Sint Maarten, St. Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands) and Puerto Rico and the beautiful beaches, snorkeling, SCUBA, zipline, etc. was amazing! Most recently (7/2012) I had the opportunity to participate with my choir in the World Choir Games. It was amazing to sing in this event and to see all of the most incredible choirs from around the world! I love singing and anything international so this was an amazing experience for me! And last of all, seeing the sun rise over the Sahara Desert in Morocco was pretty awesome.

Insegna, impara, condividi

As I've stated before, I love languages and am always willing to teach the languages I know as well as learn others I don't (or learn more about the ones I do, even including my native language, English). I love music and can teach piano/some singing and would like to learn from others other instruments (such as guitar or violin) and other dances and share our interest in music. I also like art and going to museums. I like to teach and learn about almost everything. I feel that I am open-minded and prefer to surround myself with people that are that way as well. I also enjoy discussing politics, but only when others are open/willing to discuss.
