About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Find more silence. Live most authentically. Connect as much as possible. Be mindful enough of others & nature that to the best of my knowledge I am a force for more kindness, joy, humility, and simplicity.

Previously:
Live in the Moment. Find my passions.

ABOUT ME
I am a very optimistic and genuinely content/happy person, who always tries to find the good part about difficult situations -- If your glass is half empty, I suggest you pour it into a smaller glass and start thinking optimistic again :) I love languages and creativity more than anything, therefore travelling in order to perfect or learn languages is very important to me.
I grew up in a very small town, but over the years have found the world altogether to actually be quite small -- and I love that. With every move into a new country, I have been able to find personal growth in ways I didn't expect; I mean, I don't think anyone could predict to give up the urge to achieve in the US and to find one's queerness in Kenya? Odd things can happen when you let them.
Music is another big part of my life. I sing, dance and play 3 Instruments (Piano, Guitar and flute, learning the drums at the moment), I cannot go anywhere without my headphones and really enjoy jamming with other musicians.
Every now and then I let my geeky side show, which is rooted in deep curiosity about this world and a love for knowledge and experience sharing. I embrace being a weirdo at any time of the day.

PHILOSOPHY
There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Whenever I can I host; currently I live in a co-op with 8 other people so coordinating has been tough, but I cannot wait to host again in the future!
For now I am xcited to meet people in meet-ups both where I live and whenever I travel. I simply want to live in a world, where something like couchsurfing works. I am stoked that this is currently the case, and I will do everything for that to continue to be true.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I first started to couchsurf on my first solo trip after high school graduation (unbelievably this was 10 years ago...) and was immediately hooked. As a full on extrovert, I couldn't think of anything better than meeting people wherever I go, while also enjoying the beautyful elements of solo traveling. Since then hosting has always been so fun, and surfing is always incredibly enriching. It's wild how I sometimes re-connect with surfers or hosts and it feels like we have been friends for years. Additionally, my family has done "house exchanges" all through my childhood, which is similar, and has taught me a lot about the world and traveling while growing up! Experiencing a place within the home of someone provides a perspective I truly wouldn't want to miss.

Interests

This is an ever changing category, but I do like to focus on a few things (until I then get bored again and try completely new ones). At the moment, I am very excited about learning how to dance Salsa, and especially how to both lead and follow (and switch in-between the dance!). I also recently jut a DJ deck and Midi keyboard and would love to get more into music production. Lastly, I like playing Tennis.
On a calm day, you will find me with endless coffee refills and a stack of books, or in deep discussions with close friends.
This list is not and can never be exhaustive. Novelty excited me, and my response to "do you want to try" will pretty much always be yes.

Music, Movies, and Books

I can enjoy almost any music from Musicals over Classic Rock to Electro Swing, Trance/Techno, Punk Rock and Indie. Some music speaks to me, and that's what matters. Often, I really care about lyrics, other times I mostly care about the rhythm (hence Techno). I recently started DJing, so I will be very keen to discover and hear what music you like to listen to!

Friends, Gilmore Girls, Big Bang Theory, Game of Thrones, Inception/Shutter Island, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Interstellar, Nairobi Half Life, Documentaries of any kind

Sophie's World, To kill a Mockingbird, Untamed, The Globalization Paradox, Siddharta, A New Earth

And: I LOVE Musicals"

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once we start talking, I am sure many random stories will enter the conversation! From following famous trash cans in Togo to sleeping on top of a mayan tempel in Tikal, Guatemala -- I've been blessed with life plot twists and am happy to share when they come up.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would like to learn more languages, any sort of handicrafts, how to cook a local meal, how to....anything really! I genuinely enjoy learning! Maybe something I have never heard of?

I'm always excited to also learn together by exploring some of the things I have already spent some time on learning/doing -- the instruments I play, woodwork stuff, cooking, Salsa, and maybe my meticulous documentation of things I have liked in places I have lived on or visited. Professionally I can offer to make any of your essays sound pretentious and impossible to read/follow, which I find is what they sometimes expect PhD students to perfect.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My postive attitude; my unsolicited music advice (just kidding :) ); my hands, legs and brain which together manage to complete a surprising number of things each day.
I love to cook for hosts, and am happy to help you out with anything that comes up. I am genuinely grateful to my hosts and will do anything to make the experience a win-win sccenario. (The world simply isn't zero sum. Let's prove it.)
