About Me
Dang! Don't you just hate it when you spend alllll this time filling out an online form for your work to just disappear? Welp, that just happened... so this time it may be a little more concise. A lot of this was written by baby Jason, I was just 26 when I joined this site. I'm now 42, haven't couchsurfed in ages, but am really hoping to make some new friends and provide value to my hosts.
My Backgroud-
Spokane, WA raised (too conservative for this budding gay man) --- lived in Seattle for university, Paris, Sevilla, Tucson, and then 15 years in San Diego, California. I now live on the most remote/isolated island chain on earth, the Hawaiian Islands. I live on Maui to be more specific, in the Kihei/Wailea to be precise.
Raised christian, grew out of that, especially precipitated by being gay and not supported by the church and kinda just tolerated but misunderstood by my family.
Neuroscience researcher for a biotech 2003-2007 --- then had a 14 year foray into the world of beauty, specifically eyelash extensions. I spent a year building a vacation rental company (think several airbnbs to run and manage). Now I support small businesses in taking their companies to the next level & I also sell fine art at a couple galleries in Wailea.
PHILOSOPHY
Love others and tell them you do on a regular baisis. Never stop learning. Meet people different from yourself: celebrate your differences and enjoy sharing the things you have in common. Be true to yourself. I'd rather be slapped with the truth than kissed with a lie. I do my best to extend that same courtesy to those around me. "Peace at any price" was a phrase I learned from the beautiful woman in my main profile pic and I see just how right she is every day I grow older.
BREATHE. Live in the moment- it's all we have and all we ever will have.
I'm living my life as hedonistically as possible. I want to enjoy it all, eat all the great foods, experience life to its fullest... but also make sure to take lots of time to be alone with my thoughts and feelings. I love to just chill and relax. I'm a great listener and am genuinely curious about people (ok, not all people, but most).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I met my best friend Ignacia through couchsurfing. We were both travelling Buenos Aires at the time- met up, and have been practically family to one another in the past 16 years.
I also met some really fun people like Gabi here on CS.
Now that I'm a good deal older, I recognize just how precious our free time is, and how precious our homes are. I applaud and praise the kinds of generous souls that open their homes to strangers. I promise I will do my best to be as respectful, considerate, and kind as one can muster while being in your space. I hope that I can provide you with value as well... even if it's just doing the dishes, taking out the trash, or being an ear to listen and relate with you.
Interests
I really enjoy foreign travel because there is so much to learn and appreciate. I love learning about different cultures, cuisines, languages, ways of living... ok, I'm starting to poop out here on this update so bear with me on the rest

Music, Movies, and Books
Lately I've really been into house music. I like Buddha Bar, Cafe Del Mar, Global Underground... exploring more. I also like techno/progressive like Paul Van Dyke and Tiesto. But I still like alternative, hip hop, morcheeba, soooo many more.
Books- David Sedaris is hilarious
Movies- Don't really enjoy movies and tv that much. I'm more of a TikTok guy. I like learning things in tiny little 1-3 minute nuggets. Yes, I am definitely ADHD.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I think my travels and my love stories have been amazing... I am proud of myself for taking a risk and seeking out a life in the most beautiful places possible. I'd say one of the best things I did for myself was my yoga teacher training (kundalini yoga to be exact). I'm not so much of a yogi nowadays but I certainly have learned from it and don't get so caught up in my thoughts like I used to.
Teach, Learn, Share
Yes, let's do that, all of it, both ways.
What I Can Share with Hosts
A curious, genuine, and loving ear. A warm heart. A genuine smile. A courteous, considerate, analytical and empathetic mind.
I also will do my absolute best to adapt to the type of environment you cultivate in your home. Weather that means we socialize and laugh and learn from one another, or we spend a good amount of quiet/alone time... I can roll with just about any vibe.
Also, I do not expect much more than a place to sleep and keep my things. Please don't feel obligated to show me around, cook for me, or take me places. If your heart genuinely WANTS to, I am definitely open to receiving! I will do my best to help out around the house and be tidy and clean up after myself.
Thank you so much for reading my profile and for considering sharing your home with me. As we say in Hawaii, Mahalo (thank you) and Aloha (I share with you my love and see you as love)
