About Me

CURRENT MISSION

See new parts of the world and in completely new ways.

ABOUT ME

Meeting, talking to, dancing with and sharing a space with someone new makes me happy. I love: fun, love, food, music, art, ideas, truth, creation, (de)construction, and everything in between.

I manage culture and arts events, marketing, and fundraising in emerging arts and culture organizations. A well-rounded arts professional, wordsmith, and science geek, I connect resources and relationships.

I also create conceptual and experimental performances. Utilizing both left and right brains, I facilitate empathy-based connection, while driving gracefully towards collective goals.

PHILOSOPHY

listen more than you speak (I try), and put yourself in the uncomfortable spaces where the deepest realizations will find you. Mind the gap.

I live for aesthetic paradigm shifts,
and deep resonance with others
through words, conversation, movement, touch or shared experience,
show me your unique beauty

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love to meet people as I travel, and experience a place side by side with them. Even if I can stay in hostels, I'd much rather surf a couch and get to know someone and get introduced to a place. I have lived in San Francisco for 10 years, and love when I can host travelers there. I live in a 7-person house full of artists and cultural workers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed through Zurich, London, Berlin, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. And I've stayed in the beautiful beach town of Essouira, Morrocco with a friend of a friend of a friend.
I'd love to experience your city with you, even if we go to small seemingly unextroardinary places I love experiencing the place that is meaningful to you. I'm also fine getting around and exploring by myself!

Interests

Dance! Any kind! Social, presentational, club, vogue, ethnic, hip hop, improv, modern, classical. I love showing people the dances I know, and learning from others.

Aesthetics, Politics, Sustainability, Identity, Philosophy
More Bio:
I'm a practitioner of vogue dance, competing in the House Ballroom Scene as “Xav Bizarra Lauren,” and walking (compete, perform, present) in vogue balls in the categories of Bizarre, Runway up in pumps. I'm an active member of the Legendary House of Lauren, International (Bay Area Father Zander Lauren, and Mother Landa Lakes Lauren, West Coast Prince Dante Ome'Lauren).
For the last 6 years, I've performed and produced shows and festivals with Dancing Earth Indigenous Dance Creations. I works for Native American and Indigenous communities of the Bay, with the Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits Powwow, and with The Cultural Conservancy.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: American Beauty, LOTR, Dogville, Amelie,

Music: ALL KINDS! from Opera to dub step, Rancheras, Flamenco, and Janelle Monae! I love getting into a completely new sound

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Performed at a Vogue Ball in Mexico DF's UNAM University on a runway built over a huge outdoor fountain.
Spent 3 days at Neah Bay, the Northwest tip of continental United States where my brother got married on the beach surrounded by a huge community of his friends.
Field Science and Agriculture Research in Hawaii for 9 months.
Jumped of a cliff at southernmost point of the US (south point, big island, hi)
studied in madrid for 10 weeks
Visited Morroco, France, Italy

Teach, Learn, Share

Things I can teach-study:
dance: flamenco, social (lead/follow technique though I'm not that great), vogue. how to move (for many different purposes). how to embody the kind of person you want to be and have agency over your self presentation. how to learn to forgive. How to know oneself better

how to sit still (at peace) in vulnerability and discomfort.

how to hug

how to prioritize (though I usually put off these lessons)
