HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted quite a bit but now I'm travelling, hoping to surf with like-minded people, locals who can help me appreciate the real spirit of the place they live.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have been a couchsurfer for ages, and mostly hosted so far from the small sunny island I lived on for 6 years, including: Hisham, Bhumi, Rachel from London; JP from France; Marion from Scotland, Ash & Zoe from the US, Jasmin & Patricia from Germany; then travelled with Bhumi; Rachel; Bianca & been a tour guide for Jana & Ronny; hung out with Lisa & Bianca in Jersey. Surfed in Amsterdam with Alison, in NY with Mary and Matt and in Reykjavik with Oskar and Estelle.

Travelling, absorbing, motorbikes, galleries; street art, the atmosphere in libraries, bookshops; cafes, walking; hiking, yoga, festivals, languages, scuba diving, photographing, decluttering; simplicity, learning, chocolate, dogs, world music, accents, coffee, bright colours - especially yellow.

Love world cinema esp. Almodovar, think I've seen 'Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios' about 100 times: a few Woody Allen films, but give me subtitles over Hollywood most of the time. Try to read lots of international authors, love Hardy and Camus; my favourite book ever is CANDIDE. Loved The Beach and King Rat, even more cos they were unexpectedly good travel reads picked up in hostels. My music collection is varied &; growing - love festivals like Glastonbury, Guca and Womad... Music is a huge motivator and soother. Love the voices of Saban Bajramovic, Cesaria Evora, Rosa Passos, but finding I also love instrumental stuff. Love Novalima, Fat Freddy's Drop, Madness & loads more.... can't get Hamilton out of my head.

Walked the coast of Jersey (48 miles) in 1 day ~ rode my 50cc moped with passenger from Bristol to Glasgow over Mount Skiddaw ~ survived 3 Siberian winters ~ lived in a shanty town in Mexico for 3 months with an amazing family ~ swam with wild dolphins in NZ ~ swam alongside a turtle in Hawaii ~ night dive on the SS Coolidge
