About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make the world a better place, promoting good environmental stewardship and excellent photography.

ABOUT ME

I'm a PhD student at Utah State University (Biology/Ecology), and a professional photographer (Jesse Walker Photography).

PHILOSOPHY

Be nice. All the time. To everyone.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Rarely and sporadically. I don't get many couchsurfing requests in my little town. And don't get to travel much. When I do, I prefer avoiding the hotel/motel scene when I can, both to save money and to seek out a more natural/organic environment. Something real, and homely.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A trip to Washington DC, where I had a chance to stay with a couchsurfing host all official-like. It went well, and he was great. Loved the experience.

I've hosted a couple people at my home.

I've stayed with a new friend in Las Vegas for a few days. She was a great host.

Interests

Photography, cycling, scuba diving, reading, and personal finance/investing, among many others.

Music, Movies, and Books

Wow, how about anything and everything? I love to read, and most of the time it's nonfiction, since I really enjoy learning new things. Movies are great too. My latest accomplishment is completing all Star Trek movies and episodes. Yup, every season of every series. Yeah, I'm a geek.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Scuba diving, dropping 23 feet under the sea off a boat in Anacapa island (off the coast of southern California) onto a rainbow-colored grass of waving brittle star arms. A sight I'll never forget. Brittle stars (related to sea stars) were inches deep on the sandy bottom, and every color imaginable. Each had a leg or three waving in the mild current, to pick up whatever organic material happened to be floating by. Fortunately, I was a bit too large to be digested.

Teach, Learn, Share

Coral reefs aren't doing very well. Global climate change is real, and uhm... we should all do our part to better manage the earth's resources.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Photography? I love photographing people, and would be thrilled to get a portrait or two of you while I'm around. I also teach photography, and love to share. Look me up: http://JesseWalker.photo

Conversation. General geekiness. Probably a few other things...
