About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to create the most amazing memories ever!

ABOUT ME

I would say 'artsy'. I'm studying filmmaking and history, and I love traveling. I'm the kind of person who likes to have a plan when I visit new cities, but I also love wandering and discovering new things! I love hanging out by the river, the lake, the stream...any kind of water haha. I love drawing, writing, hiking, listening to music, and EATING! The best is when you can do all of those in good company. Nothing beats a good conversation. After filmmaking, my second passion is the French Horn. I've played for about 11 years now and I love it so much. Performing with a symphony is probably one of the best feelings in the world :)

PHILOSOPHY

Love yourself--don't let what other people think of you get in the way of your experience or productivity. Just work hard and treat others fairly. Be aware of your surroundings, care about others, and never take anyone for granted. Say "thank you" often--people will remember. Also, don't be afraid of being alone. Being alone is not the same thing as being lonely. I still struggle with being alone, but it helps to remember that I have survived loneliness and it has made me more independent.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I wish I could participate more! I currently live at home, so having people stay over is not my decision. I discovered Couchsurfing when I was studying abroad in Europe, and it completely changed my experience.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A friend and I couchsurfed in Athens, Greece and had a great experience. We stayed with a young woman named Maria and her mom. Arriving in Athens and having them show us around was beautiful. The first night that we were there, Maria took us to two concerts: One was Ethiopian dancers in a bar and the other one was a 90 year old man in Athen's Street-Art Alley. It was the best way to be introduced to Athens' underground culture. In addition, Maria's mom taught me the Greek alphabet!

The second time I couchsurfed was with my sister in Paris. We stayed with a Mexican girl named Camilla. Again, we got to experience a different culture than we would have if we were staying in hotels and getting sucked into the mainstream tourism. We did see a lot of the main attractions, but Camilla showed us another side of Paris that we wouldn't have experienced otherwise.

Interests

Movies, going to museums, hiking, music, photography, reading and exploring!
I love learning about other people and different cultures. I am a feminist and a democrat and my goal in life is to help promote gender and racial equality on the big screen. I want to make films that focus on social justice issues. My senior thesis film focused on a young, undocumented woman named Noemi who is fighting to bring her sister into the United States.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last summer I volunteered for an organization called Project Oak Tree and helped refugees from Central America. I drove a few of them to the airport and got to talk to them about their experience coming into the United States.

Teach, Learn, Share

Treat people well. That's really the best lesson anyone can learn. Success isn't being competitive and cut-throat--it's knowing how to work as a team and treating everyone with respect.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my chicken soup recipe! I would share my french horn with you, but I don't think I would be able to bring it with me! I'll make you a movie that's dedicated just to you! I'll draw you a portrait! Hopefully I can make you laugh :)
