About Me
27th April 2022:
Hi!
I'm Jamie - After 8 years working on a campsite in the English Lake District I've just taken the plunge, quit my job and come to Canada with a bicycle and a 2 year work visa! I'd love to meet anyone who has suggestions about what to do next. I'm in no rush, have no schedule, no specific plan - the next 2 years are an experiment in seeing where saying yes to things may lead.
I think cycling is the perfect way to see the world and meet people - While I was working in the UK I had time through the winter to travel and I've done a few big solo bike tours:
2015-16 - Brazil, Chile, Argentina
2016-17 - USA - Vancouver to Miami
2018 - Morocco
2019- Southwest USA and Mexico
2020- Northern Patagonia
I'd never really cycled before deciding to do it and it's the best decision I've ever made - an amazing way of seeing the world and the people in it, travelling at human speed.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've had the best experiences with the best people through couchsurfing and spontaneous hosting. Hostelling is good at the right times but couchsurfing lets us meet the people in the places that we travel to. For travelling, the people are surely as special as the place.
Interests
I like to travel - walking and cycling are nice ways to see the world and learn about people.
I spent a lot of time running in the Lake District - and I was also often in a pub.

Music, Movies, and Books
Films with words on the screen and books by John Irving
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I made it from my house to the southern tip of South America (Ushuaia, Argentina) without flying, cycling 4000km of it. The more I remember the more weird that trip felt! Every mode of transport except a plane and so many amazing human experiences.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'll try fix your bicycle. If you need any help with anything I'm a hard worker with no fixed schedule!
