I enjoy cooking and eating. Who doesn't like that? (at least the eating part). I cook great pastas and Thai curries for my guests if I have time. And if they want to share their cuisine, all the better! My favorite gift whether I'm travelling or hosting is to take the host out for a meal. I like sampling the cuisines of places I'm travelling and Chicago is full of great restaurants.

I love dogs and they usually take a liking to me. I'm happy to dogsit if you have one.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a huge music and movie fan.

Music- so much, the first that come to mind: Cuban, salsa, lots of African music, Grateful Dead, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Rolling Stones, Heartless Bastards, Beth Orton, Djelimady Tounkara, David Gray, Son Volt........I could go on for a while;

Movies- Maria full of Grace, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Dreamlife of Angles, Sin Nombre, Before Sunset, Superbad, Midnight Run (I could go on and on- don't like silly action movies or sappy Hollywood movies)

Favorite Books- Shantaram by David Gregory Roberts, The Magus by John Fowles

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Overland trip from Kathmandu,Nepal to Lhasa, Tibet.

I worked 4 winters as a coatchecker in a restaurant in Switzerland. I was the only non-Italian working there. Italians taught me the true meaning of hospitality. During that time, I managed to learn and become conversant in 5 languages (Spanish, Italian, German, French and Polish).

I think the most amazing thing I've seen are the monastaires of Meteora in Greece. I've seen a lot of other amazing sites (Machu Pichu, Tikal, the Potala Palace), but the monastaries are truly stunning and it's mind-boggling how they were built.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach guitar, slide guitar, mandolin, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Polish(pretty basic) and of course English. I can juggle but I don't know if I can teach that.
