About Me

***LATEST NEWS***

I have moved back to Montreal for work (in a small apartment), so I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to host for the foreseeable future. If you're one of my former guests and happen to be passing through Montreal, however, I'll be more than happy to get together for coffee & drinks

***PLEASE READ AVAILABILITY AND PET WARNING***

I get a lot of requests. Kindly take the time to at least read these first two sections, or I may turn down your request.

AVAILABILITY

I'm accepting couchsurfers again, yay! Unfortunately, because of work, it's weekends only (Friday PM to Sunday).

PET WARNING

I have a Bengal cat in the house. If you have cat allergies, that may be an issue... Also, be advised that she's a very sociable and active cat. She can be a handful and will consider your personal properties as her chew toys. Be sure to watch your things. Also, she's very sneaky--please make sure you don't accidentally lock her up in a room when you leave. (P.S.: her name is Mistophéline, pronounced MIST-OH-FAY-LEAN.)

ABOUT ME

I'm 53 (at the time of this writing), but I'm really a 12 year-old at heart. I don't take myself too seriously. I find that the more we get into our own little drama, the less perspective we have on the larger tapestry of human drama.

I'm a non-smoker, I love cats, I hate dolphins (that's a LONG story), and I fear flaming marshmallows (there's a really HILARIOUS anecdote about that!). I play computer games, I used to do a bit of scuba diving, salsa dancing & kayaking, I have dabbled in rock climbing (though I was not good at it), and I do some weight training a few times a week. I like running. (Quebec City is a great city for runners...)

I fancy myself a writer (time will tell whether I'm any good at it). If you're curious, you can find my current writing project here: http://www.TalesOfTheUndyingCity.com.

I also do a lot of movie reviews (mostly based on what I can see here in Quebec city). You'll find them (and other editorials) here: http://www.jeancarrieres.com.

PHILOSOPHY

Like Hitch (from the movie) says, "Start every day like it's on purpose."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Never had any couchsurfing experiences. I've hosted people, but I haven't visited anyone... yet!

I really enjoy meeting new surfers, it's always a pleasure meeting new people and learning from them.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a big movie buff, and I'll watch just about anything. I can't choose which movie I like best, I've seen too many and it's impossible to decide objectively.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Been on TV a few times, in some Quebec version of the dating game and "Win, Lose or Draw." That was fun. And embarassing. But mostly fun. And embarassing...

Oh, and I talked to Stan Lee (creator of Spiderman) a few times. We're on a first-name basis (no, not really). I do have a photo of the two of us together, though (true story). ^_^

I've also visited Machu Picchu and Easter Island, I've swam with sharks, and I've lived in Chile for a few years.

What I Can Share with Hosts

BOOZE! MAPLE SYRUP! FOOD! ICE CREAM!

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Belgium, Belize, Chile, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Romania, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada, Chile
