About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Growth....from a movement to a force

ABOUT ME

I am currently living in Boston, Massachusetts playing Professional Soccer for the Boston Breakers. It's a wonderful organization in the National Women's Soccer League that hosts some of the world's best players.

I am a midfielder on the pitch and when I am not in season (March through August), I seek out the best training environments all over the world.

I have played soccer all my life and had the luxury of traveling globally to pursue my passion. I spent two and a half months in Japan where I trained with Tokyo's top women's team, Verdy Beleza. I have also played for Espanyol in Barcelona, a team in Stockholm, Sweden, and Apollon Limassol in Cyprus.

Japan was an incredible opportunity as I got to meet the U.S. Ambassador, President Obama, and the Prime Minister of Japan, Yukio Hatoyama. This leaves me even more inspired to be back in Philadelphia again blogging about my experiences with the team. www.joannalohman.wordpress.com. Writing is the perfect marriage between two things I feel very passionately about, sports and business.

As a professional athlete, I want to be a role model for young female athletes to realize their capabilities in the sports and business world. I want them to use all the wonderful characteristics they learn from playing sport (discipline, determination, focus, goal setting, leadership) to not only win on the field but off. I want to demonstrate that growing up in a life of sport is an extreme advantage in business. The characteristics to be successful are all learned through soccer and can be dually applied to a career in Corporate America.

My company, JoLi Academy strives to put all of this in action and will have its first project in India in January 2012. We will work with an NGO in Jharkhand, India, one of Asia's worst cities for human trafficking.

Playing professional soccer is not a career that you can sustain for the long term. Unfortunately, there is a point where your body can no longer compete at the highest level. Another harsh reality is that Women's sports, especially team sports, is not a multi-million dollar industry like the men's side. With these two points in mind, it is imperative that we establish a career in something other than sport....a career that is sustainable and a career that uses ones mind and not ones body to excel.

This is where my writing, media, and commercial real estate profession come into play. I will also be doing some big business as Vice President for Tenant Consulting LLC, my commercial real estate company. We do large deals with incredible creativity and we specialize in climate friendly leases that limit our footprint on our planet. It is an amazing company that I am proud to be a part of. We will have a strong impact on many groups across the country and help to make this world a better place. Check us out at www.tenantconsulting.com.

Through commercial real estate and after helping to create the first ever carbon neutral calculator for office space, I got to meet and see Al Gore speak in Washington, DC. He enhanced my desire to impact the world in a clean way.....so the story continues

Besides running on the field with soccer and off with Real Estate, I am a fun loving, crazy individual that loves to travel and experience new things. I seek challenges all over the world and don't plan on settling down until I have changed as many lives as possible.

Whether I am in Sweden, Japan, the United States, or traveling the world, I am always looking for good conversation and a good party with good company.

I feed off of the ability of individuals coming together to make an impact on a greater scale...

"We're a movement by ourselves but a force when we're together."

Couch Surfing is my force.

Move with me......

PHILOSOPHY

You can change the world by just being happy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have hosted several times in Uppsala, Sweden and have participated in the Beach Surfing 2008 Project in Croatia, surfed in Athens, Cairo, Dahab, and beyond. I also participated very actively in Japan...surfing in Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Shikoku. Not to mention, partaking in many social events with Couchsurfers in Tokyo. I think everyone that I met on my travels will agree that couch surfing is an amazing experience that has provided me with everlasting memories. I plan on hosting as many people as possible because I truly enjoy meeting new people and collaborating worldly ideas.

I also am very active in the Washington, DC (where I am originally from) and now the Philadelphia groups and often socialize with CSers on the weekends. Couch Surfing has given me an endless list of fun activities to participate in....
