About Me

CURRENT MISSION

With such a large, diverse world out there, I just hope I am able to keep on finding a little bit more of myself in my travel throughout it.

ABOUT ME

There are quite a few words that I've heard people use to describe me, and *almost all* of them are good! People say that I'm fun, clever and kind. I do think that the best way to learn all about me is to meet me and form your own opinion though :-).

I've always lived in Florida. Despite my love for new places, I have never moved away from here permanently. Who knows what we future holds though... I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

PHILOSOPHY

From the writing of Jon Krakauer, "The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun." I try my best to never judge anyone for who they are or what they've done. I'm constantly reminding myself that "right" and "wrong" are subjective terms and that what I feel is right or wrong may be the complete opposite from someone else, but who am I to judge them and assume that my way of thinking is "correct"? The third philosophy that I find very important is that kindness is one of the most needed things in our world. Very few things make me upset, but seeing people be mean, rude or hurtful to other people for no reason just frustrates me. If we all were nice to everyone we meet then so much of the problems in our world would just disappear.

To sum it all up, by seeing new places and meeting new people, keeping an open mind to everyone I meet and by being a kind, friendly person, I hope to be doing my little part to improve the earth and our one human family.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I feel that everybody, no matter who they are or where they are in life, has something that they are great at or knowledgeable about. I feel that CouchSurfing is an incredible resource for like-minded people to meet each other and share their talents with each other. Through CouchSurfing, my desire is to grow as a person through my interactions, and hopefully help others that I meet to do the same.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been traveling since April and have met many couchsurfers along the way. I have had very positive stays with many hosts over the past few months and have enjoyed meeting many other couchsurfers through my hosts, couchsurfing meetings and sometimes just randomly on the street when I start speaking with people I meet about couchsurfing. When I get back home I hope to organize couchsurfing meetings in my community.

Interests

I think the core of my urge to adventure is my continuous need to learn new things. I love learning new facts (about nearly anything), seeing new places and meeting new people.

I've spent most all of my life within 10 minutes of the ocean. I love spending time on the beach, relaxing. When I was younger, standing on the bright, sunny shore of the ocean and watching the waves crashing down in front of me, I first realized how small my "world" was relative to the huge, diverse world out there... and that belief is something that continues to encourage me to travel

One thing that I always love to learn more about is beer. To me, beer is an art form that has been around for thousands of years and is a great cultural representation of the area and people that brew it.

Music, Movies, and Books

If I felt like I was writing too much in the other sections, then this one would definitely go on for too long.

Good movies are visual stories, and the ones that I enjoy the most are films which provide insight into life. Some of my favorites are Garden State, Into The Wild and The Shawshank Redemption.

If I were to say that books and movies open up my mind, I would have to say that music opens up my soul. I could not even begin to list the artists and bands that I listen to because there is such a dynamic list of music that I enjoy. I can respect all music as an expression of the artist and am constantly having my musical tastes shifted in different directions.

With books, I most often enjoy non-fiction. That definitely goes back to my love for learning. For fiction, I usually prefer the classics - books like The Call of the Wild, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Henry Rider Haggard's series of books about Allan Quatermain.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have sat at the edge of the Grand Canyon, watching the sun slowly illuminating the vibrant canyon walls.

I've sat on a rooftop, watching New York City fade from sunlight into a constantly-moving nighttime metropolis.

I've dug my toes into the sand and water of the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

I've ridden on the back of a motorbike, weaving it's way through traffic all over the crazy streets of Rome.

I've met amazing people and seen beautiful places that are too numerous to describe but I will be able to carry the memories of forever.

Teach, Learn, Share

You'd be amazed at the random things you can learn from me! I've picked up countless facts and lots of knowledge throughout my life. Spend a little time with me and you'll see how often something pops into my mind and I will blurt out some random piece of trivia.

I love learning just about anything new but the three things I hope to learn are:

Languages - I want to be able to communicate more effectively with everyone that I meet and hope to improve my linguistic skills.

Cooking - As much as I would love to claim to be an expert cook, I am far from it. I welcome all sorts of advice and guidance in the kitchen.

Music - I've owned guitars since I was 14 years old, understand the basics and have memorized the chords, but I just don't have the rhythm. I'm not even sure if that is something that I am able to learn... but I hope so!
