Hi there, my name is Jean, I'm a french guy living in Paris, and studying sociology for my phd.

PHILOSOPHY

I just read on wikipedia that it's a kind of prayer used in the anonymous alcoholic groups, but that's where not I got it :) I heard it in a movie, and think it really helps when thinking of certain things.

Here's another short story that I love :

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith." I've hosted and surfed, and then been quiet for a while, and now want to surf again :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've joined couchsurfing four years ago, and have surfed in the UK and in Germany. After having a great experience surfing, I welcomed quite a few travelers in my former tidy student room in Paris. I've been away from couchsurfing for almost two years now. I've loved most of the experience I've had with couchsurfers, and I've made some very good friends thanks to the website.

Good music, good food and good company :) I love to cook as well.
I like books pretty much, I read mostly essays (in sociology, psychology or philosophy) but try to squeeze some novels in there as well.
I'm also very interested in ecology, permaculture... that kind of things.
I also love swimming, walking (in nature of wandering through the city), and traveling by train.

Things I listen to at the moment : Pokey Lafarge, Jonathan Wilson, Roni Size. I also recently discovered a taste for swing music (and dance), but have not had time to further explore the subject yet.

Apart from that, Electronic music, jazz, rock, tango, classical... but especially anything in between. To give a few names : Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, Björk, Bonobo, Black Mountain, Dead Weather, Gravenhurst, Ibrahim Maalouf, James Figurine, King Krimson, Love, Meira Asher, Piazzolla, Pauline Croze, Rubik, Sibelius, The Shins, Sigur Ros,Varttina...

Books and movies....... will you pardon me for being a bit lazy and not extensively fill this part ? I loved the last book I've read, Butterflies in November, from Audur Ava Olafsdottir.
