About Me

I just retired from the US Geological Survey. I spent the last three years traveling to Africa, Latin America, and South East Asia for work. Now I am excited to travel for pleasure and spend more time meeting people. I moved to the Washington DC area six years ago and still am exploring. There is so much to do here in the DC area. I own my own Town home in Reston, Va and enjoy kayaking and paddle boarding on the lake nearby.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to meet people from all over the world, learn about other cultures, and learn languages. I find that we are all very much alike but have our unique perspectives to view the world. This is what makes it so interesting to meet others from other countries. I am now retired and ready to do some pleasure traveling.

Interests

Nature, hiking, water sports, beaches, eating good food, learning about the places I am visiting.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love the 60 and 70's music, reggae, Brazilian jazz, etc. I like to read armchair travel books and books about gutsy women. I like movies but I would rather read, explore, and talk to people.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica, living with the BriBri Indians in the Valle de Talamanca. It was a 2 year assignment. Living without electricity, running water, or internet was an experience I will not forgot. I loved it!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am motivated to work towards conserving the environment, reducing my carbon footprint on the planet. I am interested in how other cultures and lifestyles use less material resources but still enjoy a comfortable life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My friendship, my experience as an American, both from living in the US and traveling to many countries.
