CURRENT MISSION
Visit the world, discover new cultures and pay it forward
ABOUT ME
With 4 cultures/nationalities and a handful of languages between them. The Franco-German Boy (Nicolas) and Kiwi-Asian Girl (Jean) were born and grew up on opposite sides of the world.
Girl, born in Taiwan, caught the travel bug and was exposed to many different cultures at a very young age when her family was "forced" to move to the Solomon Islands for her Dad's job before later immigrating to New Zealand (where she calls home).
Boy, born in France, became accustomed to cross-Europe trips to Germany to visit family early in life, and later spent an Erasmus year there too.
Both lived fairly "nuclear family" lives and neither aware of each other's existence until Girl's big, solo OE (overseas experience - a rite of passage for Kiwis) or "gap year" in France in 2006.
Girl (aka Little Miss Sunshine) is a little unbalanced (a bit ironic considering she's a Libra)- sparkly, crazy, but 'logical'; a chatterbox (who knows when to be quiet) and loves to laugh, but also has a serious side! Boy is straight forward, inquisitive and somewhat of an 'introverted extrovert' - it takes a minute of 2 before he catches up with Girl's exuberance.
After a whirlwind romance, Boy and Girl (married since June, 2010) relocated to Toronto, Canada in November, 2007 (for 2 years). After Toronto, they lived in New Zealand, and France, before falling into the daily grind of life in Melbourne, Australia since 2011; then, in 2013, they welcomed Baby Girl into their eclectic mix of cultures! Baby no.2 is set to make an appearance early 2016
PHILOSOPHY
A smile and some kindness can go a long way!!
No matter how bad things get, it could probably always be worse!
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Sooo would've loved to have done this when we had the place and space in Toronto but, unfortunately, wasn't aware of it. So, for now, we are testing other people's couches and when things are a bit more 'stable' and we're settled somewhere for an extended period of time, we are definitely planning on (and very much looking forward to) hosting and paying it forward!!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We've surfed friends' couches and hosted them on ours on an 'unofficial' level (and much, much smaller scale) over the years, but are very excited to surf and host couches on a wider and more international scale. All the 'official' couchsurfing experiences we've had have been amazing - we've been able to meet some fantastic people, learn about their cultures, discover their cities from a different point of view and become friends!
Centres d'intérêt
Boy and Girl have many common and conflicting interests which include: travelling, food, reading, sports (football, rugby, ice hockey, tennis...), drinking (mainly beer), eating, cooking, good times with friends, cafe hopping, meeting new people, learning about new cultures...
