Long time Seattleites, we have retired from owning our own business and now travel full-time. During the summer months we are currently traveling in a small travel trailer made in Quebec, called an ALTO, and we have thrived living together in just 91 square feet. The views though, in national parks and forests and volcanic fields, have been spectacular. So, we like to be outdoors and hike, swim, kayak.

In my professional life I've founded a book store and a farmers market and a food co-op, I have driven, manufactured and marketed class 8 trucks (the really big ones), been a small town publicist and provided public outreach on major construction projects both private and public along the US west coast. My husband is a nuclear engineer who loves history and board games and word games.

During the 2018-2019 winter we are embarking on five months of European and northern Africa travel including Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Canary Islands, and Ireland. We hope to delve deeply into the culture, food, architecture and natural environments of these beautiful places.

Next year we will rinse and repeat, with US travel in the summer with our beautiful little trailer, and overseas in the winter. In-between trips we stay with accommodating friends so we are used to shared tasks, shared cooking, private space in open places, different ways of being and of doing things.

A close friend in Seattle has hosted one of the top couch surfing destinations for several years and we have met hundreds of couchsurfers from across the world and become friends. We hope to be able to visit many of them as we travel ourselves. We both love meeting others, discovering their plans for travel or their experiences. I have also had the opportunity to introduce many of these visitors to my own favorite places near my home. It is a fantastic cultural exchange, and we now have the time to travel ourselves, so traveling in this way is absolutely at the top of my agenda. We are often in AirBnB accommodations and find it isolating.

Interessi

I love music and dance. Art loves history and board games. He travels to conferences to play detailed war games with others, so his grasp of world and European history is vast. I prefer the longer term...I read widely in geology and always look at my surroundings from that point of view.

Musica, film e libri

Books: I love anything by John McPhee or Oliver Sacks, and have read the Patrick O'Brien Master and Commander series several times (21 books in that series) . Also love Dorothy Dunnett's many-volume historical fiction. I formed a bookclub over 30 years ago and still belong, and we have read widely in fiction and literature. My husband is a history buff and reads European history widely, in addition to playing historical board games. When we downsized to travel we had to let go of 6000 books. At least we could digitize the music!

I traveled to Taiwan as a representative of the United States, part of a volunteer arts group (Fremont Arts Council in Seattle Washington USA) that creates celebration art within its community. Taiwan invited us and three other small organizations to help them develop community. It was awesome.

Art can play or teach most board games. I love to dance and would love to learn new dances. I am a good cook and love to both teach and learn. I am learning Spanish, Portugese, French and would appreciate instruction. .

We can share cooking, chores, word and board games, dancing, exploration, laughter and joy. We also like to wander through cities. We don’t arrive with our guidebook all marked up. We believe we can see and meet people better with an open mind.
