About Me

- CURRENT MISSION -
Nurture my relationships as I have the time and the mental space to travel, be of service, and just generally help them out when they need.

- ABOUT ME -
I quit my first design job to go travel to California over 10 years and met my husband there while Couchsurfing. We now live together in Paris, where I was grew up, and trying to make sense of where home is.
I grew up making art (drawing, playing instruments, act in theatre plays), had a 10 year career in design, and now I'm exploring art-therapy.

- PHILOSOPHY -
Be curious.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

- HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING -
I started by being hosted during my trip to California. While living there, my husband and I hosted a few people and loved it! Our living conditions in Paris doesn't land well to host unfortunately. To be honest we haven't used Couchsurfing in quite a few years, but as I traveled to Croatia recently, I realized that when I travel, I want to meet locals so here we are, back at it!

- COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE -
Well, pretty damn good, I met my husband thanks to Couchsurfing. But I also met a really good American friend who's moving to France with his wife, whom he met through Couchsurfing as well. I met people who opened me to new interests and points of view. And I also had a couple of meh experiences that now make for good stories to share.

Interests

I'm very interested in the arts, experiencing it and making it. I knit a lot, draw, mend my clothes, throw ceramic. I'm interested in slower and de-growth living. I ferment vegetables, make kefir and kimchi. I have too many books in my "To Read" pile and I wish I read more.
I'm somebody who lives their emotions intensely so having physical and mental outlets is important to me. I walk a lot, run, exercize, go to protests (I'm French after all).
I can't work in an environment or for a company that doesn't share similar values as mind around the ecology and the respect we owe to living beings. I volunteer for an ethical marketing organization.
These days I'm learning about feminist and queer theories - mostly from French authors for now.

Music, Movies, and Books

I usually read 4 to 5 books at the same time so I can pick one depending on my mood, and usually there is a graphic novel, an essay, a fiction and a memoir in my rotation.
* In graphic novels, I have to mention "Les Idées nNoires" from Frankin, Jérémie Moreau, and Craig Thompson (Habibi and Blankets are wonderful!).
* In terms of essays, Gabor Maté is my go to these days. And, this year, I read books about feminist theory by Bell Hooks, Roxane Gay, or Virginie Despentes; about sobriety by Holly Glenn Whitaker and Annie Grace; but also about psychology - hypersensitivity, the memory of the body, art therapy.
* I just discovered Demon Copperhead from Barbara Kingslover and couldn't put down the book. I can't wait to read another one of hers. I love long winded fiction, like Paul Auster, that takes you through decades of life of a character.
* I recently started reading memoirs and I find them fascinating. Some I loved: Pageboy by Eliot Page, In The Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado, and Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry.

In movies, I love Cohen brother's films. Wes Anderson and Taika Waititi are two directors that I follow closely. Recently, I was astonished by The Banshee of Irinshen, Com'on Com'on, Drunk and Jojo Rabbit. The Office and High Maintenance are in my heavy rotation for a feel good laugh.

I mostly listen to electro music these days but I also love to sing, which I'll do with all the air I have in my lungs on old French songs from Edith Piaf. Gipsy jazz and classical piano will calm me down and that's what I usually listen to in the morning.
