Overview
About Me
I'm in London, UK, at present, between jobs and apartments, and can't host lately.
-----
I like to think about stretching shapes, because I think it's beautiful. People usually ask me what my sort of math can be used for, and I usually give examples, but I've always thought it's the wrong question, sort of like asking a poet what his/her poems will be used for.
This trajectory has taken me US -> Brazil -> Canada -> UK so far in university positions, but currently I have none and think I will travel some.
I'm an amateur composer too. I studied Mandarin in school and on my own for a long time, but have gradually lost fluency over the years.
I have left-wing (anarchist-leaning) politics.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Every once in a while I get to explore a new place but wind up spending a lot of the time alone. I'm really tired of that and would like to meet people wherever I go.
-----
Ocasionalmente eu consigo visitar e explorar um lugar novo mas gastar a maioria do tempo sozinho. Eu fiquei cansado a fazer isto e preferiria conhecer pessoas em qualquer lugar para onde eu for.

TV:
I used to watch a lot of TV and one day I'll fill in this section
Movies and books:
Same here. Some recent books I read were The Power Broker, The Sumerians (Kramer), and Snow Crash.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've been arrested for peacefully protesting (private health insurance, in the US).
I've written a (math) book.
I don't honestly think I've ever done anything incredible.
Teach, Learn, Share
I want to learn what life is like where I go and what people think about. I've spent a lot of time studying various things (with varying levels of success), and am happy to talk about any of them and share anything I know with a host. This doesn't mean I am necessarily able to teach anything well, but it's not lack of trying.
Politics and mathematics are obvious things I have strong opinions about, but I also think about television and philosophy and linguistics and archaeology and other things like a normal person.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Posso compartilhar o meu conhecimento de inglês ou lavar a louça. (Eu estou disposto cozinhar também mas sou sem habilidade.)
