About Me

I am a Daoist kung fu teacher. I lived in China for 7 years and have been traveling and teaching around the world since then.

I love comic books and will steady talk about comics all day if provoked.

Music, movies, and reading are essentials. Happy to get into a conversation about just about anything and in general I just really love a good conversation. Looking to meet inspired, unique people chasing their own integrity.

I play a traditional Chinese instrument called the guqin... too annoying to travel with though.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am looking for a place to put some roots in the ground and open my own kungfu school, so taking in some of the atmosphere in places I am visiting and talking with people who live there is essential.

Interests

I am quite passionate about the things I am interested in and love getting thick into a good chat or just sitting in a relaxed place enjoying the atmosphere. People watching, all that.

Music, Movies, and Books

Art is life and life is art. Music, movies, and books are universes.

I have been really into a lot of minimalist, and downtempo electronic stuff lately. Nils Frahm, El Buho, Jon Hopkins, etc. But I have an extensive range of music that I listen to from traditional Chinese music written thousands of years ago through classical, punk, hip hop, and into modern composers such as Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Favorite movies would probably be Fight Club, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Big Lebowski, Princess Mononoke, and Hara Kiri, but the list is too long.

Favorite books, well... I have been on a major Murakami kick for a few years, but I read pretty extensively in a variety of different genres, both fiction and non-fiction. I love well-done scifi such as Liu Cixin's Rememberance of Earth's Past trilogy, but also Cormac McCarthy, history, etc.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can definitely share my weird experiences and strange life, solid conversation, and generally travel with a small tea set and some very quality Chinese teas.
