ABOUT ME

My name is Jeff DeVetten. I finished Civil Engineering at the University of Calgary in Canada and then worked in northern Canada in the Oil Sands for one year. During my education I worked on a free range turkey farm near Calgary, AB. In 2011 and 2012, I managed to spend 18 months traveling around Asia, with the majority of my time in China. I returned to Canada for 3 years, before returning to China. Now i bounce back and forth a lot. I'm currently on a 4 month journey through central and South America with my girlfriend, Tara.

PHILOSOPHY

Be the change you want to see in the world. I want to build a global community that exists in peace and equality. I am a positive person and I want to bring joy into the world.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

While I was in Hong Kong in 2011, I was invited out for authentic Cantonese food with the CS community of Hong Kong. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and immediately signed up for CS when I got back to my hostel. Now I will be traveling Asia once more and will hopefully have many more great CS experiences.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Every person I've met has been a great friend! I look forward to meeting many more great people through couch surfing.

I enjoy intelligent conversations, philosophical contemplations, eating delicious food, going for long walks and drinking tea. My parents put me in several sports as a child, so now I'm somewhat of a daredevil, and generally good at physical activities. I play guitar and piano. I read books during long road trips or train rides. I've traveled a lot of western North America by car.

I drove from Skagway, Alaska to Santa Cruz, California in the year 2007. Friends and family have made my life full of amazing things done/seen.

I'm a certified English Teacher, I know a lot of math, and I can make balloon animals. I learned Chinese (Mandarin) while traveling and working in China, so I can talk your ear off about how interesting their language is. I'm currently studying spanish while traveling South America. I would love to practice with you.
