About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Play in as many Scrabble tournaments as possible over the summer.

Travel to the North Carolina Smokies and Asheville, July, 2015.

ABOUT ME

I'm an avid appreciator of life. I like to read, but I like doing things more. In college, I liked studying literature. Lately I've been reading all the Margaret Atwood and Nassim Nicholas Taleb I can get my hands on.

I used to write poetry. I haven't in a while. Maybe I outgrew it!

As my favorite author James Michener said, "The world is my home."

PHILOSOPHY

Dig and be dug in return.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I'm living in a one-bedroom condo in Midcity, Baton Rouge. Enjoy going to live music that's a short drive downtown. During the academic year I'm busy but I am more available to host this summer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted a couple of times, and met some cool folks through the website in the past.

Looking forward to more positive experiences, surfing and hosting.

Interests

I like: concerts, poetry, boats, Lincoln cents, astronomy.

Music, Movies, and Books

Snowmine's 2011 album Laminate Pet Animal. Modest Mouse, The American Anthology of Folk Music, J Mascis. CHROMATICS. Sometimes I listen to Grimes. Sufjan Stevens. Tennis. Memory House. Dr. Dog. Tame Impala. When I'm in Baton Rouge I like to get my groove on in the car to 90.7 KLSU!

Movies: I tend to love art house/foreign films, especially ones that make you think or see the world in a novel way. Current guilty pleasure (as of December, 2013): Beaches with the Babs. Looking forward to viewing Bunuel's loose trilogy of Viridiana and the Exterminating Angel, etc. Like the naturalistic movies I've seen of Lisandro Alonso, particularly La libertad and Liverpool. Kieslowski's Dekalog and Three Colours trilogy. Lots of others, usually go by director.

Books: Schismatrix, Moby Dick, Faulkner, Bukowski, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Margaret Atwood, Liz Lochhead, Elizabeth Bishop, Dostoevsky, Neal Stephenson, William Gibson, Hemingway and anything by James Michener. My favorite period of literature is that between the wars (basically anyone who did or could have hung out at Gertrude Stein's casa). I'm trying to get better-versed in more recent writers like Pychon and some post-modernists.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw a cow on the roof of a cottonhouse.
