About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Truly live life, shed the remains of my old life, and meet the people I want in my new future!

ABOUT ME

After I graduated from uni in 08, I spent a couple years working as a tax accountant. I had a life changing event happen that really caused me to re-evaluate everything in my life. I hopped on my motorcycle, rode 1500km from Seattle down to California, and called my work to let them know I wouldn't be back! Ever since then, the last couple years, I've just been traveling as much as possible, and kind of starting a new life in this town. The changes to my life in the past couple years have been the best thing I have ever done. I'm looking forward to more travels, more people, and more awesome experiences!

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is that people need constant change and new experiences to grow. Without a conscious effort, it's easy to get stuck in a rut, that eventually just consumes your life. Same city, same job, same friends, same pubs... We get older, but everything about us stays the same, unless we make an effort to change our lives.

I went through a drastic change and I had to re-evaluate every aspect of my life, and decide what was important to me. What I decided is important is meeting new people and going to new places. Making new friends, true friends, not just beer drinking buddies. I love meeting new people when I travel. I find most travelers have a really open mind about the world, and are the kind of people that really bring you up when you spend time with them, and can open your eyes to all kinds of new experiences!

In summary, to me, life is about people and experiences. These are the things that make life worth living.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I signed up for Couchsurfing a few years back and never actively participated. I haven't had a place I could really call my own home in a few years, I was staying at my Mom's place during Uni to save cash, and recently I've been staying at friend's places or her place when I'm in the area. So unfortunately I haven't been in the position to offer a couch. :/

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

On my 7 week motorcycle trip down to California and back, I spent the whole time couchsurfing. I had some buddies scattered up and down the west coast, so I'd just swing by, crash there for a couple/few days, and move along to the next spot!

Interests

I would say my main hobby involves cars and motorcycles. I like to fix up old ones, and I like to tune them to improve power, handling, etc. I like to ride motorcycles as well, but my main interest is in the mechanical systems.

I like hiking and doing stuff outdoors, as long as it's warm. I hate being cold. Being cold and wet is one of the most miserable things in the world!

That got off topic quickly.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy a pretty wide range of music. Rock has always kinda been my fallback. I grew up in Seattle during the 90's when Grunge was the big thing, so that music is definitely a part of me. I like some electronic music, but I know so little about it, that's about the best I can say about my electronic music tastes.Usually I'm into more upbeat, fast paced music. I find that often times punk rock can actually be soothing when life is getting a bit crazy.

I don't read nearly as much as I should, but most of the books (and movies) that I really enjoy are non-fiction, or at least closely based on actual events. I really enjoyed reading Shantaram, which is the only book that really pops into my mind at the moment as a favorite.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The first thing that comes to mind is riding an old Soviet Minsk motorcycle from Hanoi to Saigon. I had no idea going into the trip how mentally challenging it would be, and the feeling of riding into Saigon, a bit worse for wear but still in one piece, was incredible.

Teach, Learn, Share

Don't go too far out of your way to see the Taj Mahal. If you happen to be in northern India, go for it... But I think it's more impressive in photos than in real life.
