About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Connect with others; Teach my students; Be a gadfly when need be.

ABOUT ME

My best friends would say I was thoughtful, caring, and iconoclastic - that I do what I think is right, not what others do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hope to host and surf, and meet interesting caring people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Did this through other means - pre-internet - in my 20's; glad to see this kind of sharing take shape now. Have connected through airbnb.com, mealsharing.com as well.

Interests

I am passionate about teaching - about reaching kids, seeing who they are, and trying to get them to get the best out of every part of themselves. I can't imagine living without music, as it is provides depth and joy in every moment. I am proud for having recently gone 5 years without a car - preferring to bike, bus, or walk. I also want to know what's going on in the world, and inside whatever person I'm with at the time. I don't do superficial very well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling along the Yangtze River, looking up at the terraced farms and majestic mountains, and thinking, "I'm really here."

Immersed in the exhibits at the Apartheid and National Arts Museums in South Africa, and shedding tear after tear.

Sleeping in a hammock in the kitchen of a host Mayan family in Belize, appreciating how warm and welcoming they've been.

Spending time with a close friend, feeling a warm glow, and understanding how lucky I am.

Teach, Learn, Share

Have hosted exchange students for a dozen years, from all over the world.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belize, Canada, China, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey
