About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I love to speak other languages (those that I know anyway): French, Spanish, German, and I like to discuss politics, pasts, history, ideas, countries, etc. with others around a dinner table or at least with a good glass of wine or beer.
ABOUT ME
Nancy and I are social, and love to discuss most anything, especially over a good meal and a glass or two of wine. We're not big night life people though in the sense of painting the town red every night. We both like to read a lot - Nancy novels; me novels, history. I study mostly French and Spanish and am involved in chat groups mostly in French. We have traveled to Spain, France, and Argentina in the last couple of years.
PHILOSOPHY
Life and travel, eating and drinking, are a pleasure. Also speaking to someone in their own language is a pleasure. I want to do these things as much as possible.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We have not couchsurfed yet, or had couchsurfing guests, but have friends about our age who have couchsurfed in Spain and Turkey and are very keen on it.
Interests
I like to read about Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries, and like novels from Europe and the U.S. Also, I am interested in American history, in general, I'm interested in finding out how things came to be as they are. I also like to move around a lot physically, taking walks and playing tennis most days.

Music, Movies, and Books
I just finished The Goldfinch, by Donna Tartt, a fabulous book. And I just started a book on the various Mexican revolutions. I listen a lot to classical music and to jazz, but don't know a lot about them. Nancy and I go the the movies once a week or so.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I don't think life is made up of amazing things, and I don't require amazing to enjoy myself. However, to answer your question - walking through Greenwich Village at one o'clock in the morning and having to elbow your way through crowds of people at that is amazing. Also walking north on Park Avenue from Grand Central Station is amazing because of the immense mass of the buildings lined up on both sides of the street and the huge number of people and cars there.
Teach, Learn, Share
Nancy and I both enjoy people who have been around in the world a lot, especially if they've lived abroad. Foreigners are always welcome at our house, since we both enjoy finding out things about other countries and other parts of the world, also other areas of the United States.
