ABOUT ME

I'm funnier than I look and fascinated with life. I've been grinding away in corporate America, and this is my mini-retirement! I feel pretty excited to take this time to meet great people, travel around Spaceship Earth, and see how other people do it.

PHILOSOPHY

I have a life motto:

"You gotta plan your life like you're gonna live a damn long time. But LIVE...live like you just might not."

Life feels precious and short. Well, my life feels that way. :) With the uniquely human gift of our advanced consciousness, I think we are endowed with the ability to assign meaning to our lives, to determine purpose, to define our reason to exist. This, to me is so empowering. It's also very funny to me that my brief spark, this configuration of energy and atoms that my parents called "Jeff" is configured this way for such a short time, and all my whims, my concerns, my laughs, and my loves will all be washed away in the great entropic expanse of time and space. It's absurdly beautiful, causing me to feel like it's a big joke, one that I'm privileged to be "in" on.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love to tell stories. I feel most comfortable making a group of people laugh--either with me or at me, I don't care. Or you can put me in a kitchen and I'll do my best to delight your tastebuds. And electronic music? Dancing? Getting down? Yes please!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted friends and friends of friends, and I loved showing off my lovely city of San Francisco. I had a spare bedroom for just that reason. Now it's time for me to be the best guest I can be! My goal is to be delightful, open, honest, respectful, and grateful. I had many wonderful guests, and I want to be a wonderful guest myself.

兴趣

I love seeing how people work, getting a fun reaction and connecting in a real way. I like asking uncommon questions to get unexpected answers. I might be heard waxing scientific about how ants' entire behavior set is dictated by teeny-tiny pheromone sacs, or maybe blabbing how the Mars would be a horrible place to live, which is why most people don't care that we are driving remote-controlled cars around on it, even though that's AMAZING! I love "finding the funny" in any situation; if I'm freezing and sopping wet from the rain, I'm probably laughing at myself at the same time.

I am always reading a science fiction of fantasy book. There was a time when books were my only friends (sniff). I love my Kindle...too much. I'll say I love it too much. When I'm not reading those books, I'm reading books on how to build a better me. I really dig self-actualization, philosophy, and psychology.

As far as movies go, I've found that although I do have snobby taste in dialogue and story, I will watch anything with lasers, swords, castles, space ships, and/or aliens. I'm a nerd, you just can't always tell.

Oh man...I love to learn from people who've DONE things. I always want to know how they did what they wanted to do and why they wanted to do it. I love to figure things out, and I do well with analytical, curious folk who see the details of things.
