About Me

I am currently in the Navy's Civil Engineer Corps, the Navy's version of the Army's Corps of Engineers. I'm actually doing a tour with the Seabees. John Wayne made an awesome movie about Seabees in 1944 called "The Fighting Seabees." It's currently rated 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. You should go see it. :-) I have been in the Navy for ten years. I tried flight school before this but couldn't stop throwing up in the plane, so they made me go do something else. Prior to my Navy career I worked at a shipyard building aircraft carriers and submarines.

I'm grew up in Everett, Washington. I've lived in Norfolk, VA; Annapolis, MD; Pensacola, FL; Gulfport, MS; New Orleans, LA; Oxnard, CA; Guam; and currently live in Escondido, CA. I've traveled to 40+ states, both coasts of Canada, Costa Rica, the UK, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Palau, FSM, MLH, Philippines, Indonesia, and Timor-Leste.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet tons of new people as I travel and to travel as inexpensively as possible. I don't use it much where I'm at now but plan to more in the future.

Living in a well regimented military and engineering existence often remits me from the emotional and sociological aspects of being human. Couchsurfing allows me to step outside of my comfort zone and meet new people crazy enough to let me sleep on their couch/stay on mine. Life gets dull, crazy can be good.

Interests

I love working with my hands. I have a motorcycle and a 20 year old sports car that I love to work on. I also have an Airstream trailer that I am in the process of renovating.

I hate gyms but I love working out. I bike, I run, I row, I yoga, and I love being outside. Don't like swimming, hate cold water.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a fan of indie rock. I typically listen to NPR, I love Radiolab.

My favorite radio station is 88.5 KCSN out of Northridge, CA. I stream them all the time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've ridden a free bicycle from Seattle to Portland in one day. Thats over 200 miles on someone's craigslist junk. I've actually made the journey three times.

I've ridden my motorcycle over 4600 miles in two weeks, couchsurfing the whole way! LA to Seattle to Gulfport.

Teach, Learn, Share

Couchsurfing is not code word for emergency crash pad. If you don't have references, nothing in your profile is verified, you don't say anything unique to me in your message, you make your request on the day you want to stay, you don't have a picture of your face, I will probably not accept you. I realize that everyone has to start somewhere, but this is the attitude that seasoned hosts hate. The secret of Couchsurfing is that spending the night is just an excuse to meet locals. It's about the people, not the place to sleep.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My life story, a good IPA, engineering wisdom. I might be able to fix something of yours, perhaps a lawn mower or the WiFi.
