ABOUT ME
I'm a student in Delft.
I would like to try out this couchsurfing. Preferably in combination with hitchhiking for the ultimate free/cheap vacation. I'm Dutch so no travelling and no sleeping expanses sounds like walhalla to me.
Another important thing for couchsurfing to me is the fact that you're with people who know the city or surroundings so that I won't be a typical tourist.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Both ways. I hosted 2 times now and I have been hosted by 3 hosts. I'm looking forward to the next guests/hosts!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I participated a hitchhiking contest to Orléans. Since I was there anyway, I decided to stay there for some time. I surfed at two hosts and they were both really nice people. I'm sure I'll do it again some time.
And a few months later I did. I went to Chimay by hitch hiking and I met 4 other couchsurfers there, it was great! I did some mountain biking and windsurfing and some working in the garden. A nice relaxing vacation in small village in the south of Belgium.
Interests
I have abroad interests, as most people here I guess. I like snowboarding/wakeboarding, hiking, playing ultimate frisbee, boardgames as well as magic the gathering, I like technical stuff. Yes I like stuff. I think it's awesome when people manage to intertwine society, nature, art and technology. For example hydroponics. That is basically a small ecosystem made of a fishtank with plants living on top. (I'm no expert yet, but I'm interested in learning more)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Well, one thing that I found amazing was culturing photobacters. They are bacteria that emit light when they have glucose and oxygen. So I had a flask full of them and by closing off the air inlet they stopped glowing almost immediately. so they kind of acted as a light bulb, it looked awesome, I'm immediately going to upload a picture of it!
Another thing I immensely liked seeing was the "strandbeesten van Theo Jansen". so they are mechanical animals that use wind power to walk over the beach and his workshop is close to where I live.
These are not much travel related, but still, they should be awesome things nearby. But I would like to see awesomeness as well abroad, so I hope CS will provide me with some nice stories in the near future.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can show you how retarded the biotechnology debate is in politics. As well I can show you that in general people fearing biotechnology don't know much about it, but as well I seriously see downsides of it. And I could tell you how the current legislation around genetic manipulation makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Considering learning, I'm trying to pick up Spanish, because it's the native language of my boyfriend. Ya puedo hablar un pocitin de Español. (Si, es de Leon)
