HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Did my fair share of hosting and surfing. Been neglecting the profile for a while, but feel I should definitely get involved again.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A tendency to be host, rather then to be hosted. I started with the thought that I might want some credibility as a host before I send some requests myself. Getting slightly irritated by the people that subscribe only to surf and then forget that it is a matter of mutual exchange. My first surfer is an excellent example.

Admittedly I have some self-discipline troubles. No Couchsurfer will or should want to change that. I'm interested in what you do and if we can do it together please tell me how. I can't promise I will ever do it again, but that doesn't change the fact that I love to learn from you.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Basically anything where you can hear the performers put love and creativity into their songs. Preferably more instruments then just Guitar/Bass/Drum. I can't say I have perfect hearing, but anyone can hear whether or not a musician was inspired when he wrote or played something. I have a few styles I can't stand at all but other then that I'm not easily annoyed nor shall I complain.
Suggestion: Jaga Jazzist. When I saw this band (bday gift) they were with 10 musicians, their formation changes though. All of them multi-instrumentalist. Not your average easy listening.

Movies: I try to see as many movies as I can. Without judging them before I've seen the end. But as you all can imagine not always easy. Ergo, I have seen so many films that I can't tell you what the best films are.
I can give a suggestion though: Into the great silence. (3 hours of filmed material from inside a christian monastery, where the monks have taken a vow of silence) Don't ask why, see for yourself.

Books: How to explain that I used to read like mad when I was in Primary school. Then didn't read all throughout Secondary education. Since I'm done with school I went back to the frantic: "Read any book you can find as quickly as possible". I find it interesting to read about a lot of topics as long as I find new information, not your average paperback love story.
Suggestion: A fascinating Accident (this is my translation of the book I read in Dutch.) 1 Dutch interviewer, 6 World famous scientists with various expertises. Topics of discussion, so many, but all of them agree: The earth, however you feel about it, a Fascinating Accident.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Frozen waterfall in Slovenia, comes to mind immediately. Could be because it was only recently I saw that one. 23/01/09

I have read a book under starlight only.

I suppose anywhere in Africa seems so different from anywhere else in the world that I'll have to go back to that continent.
