About Me

Hello it's nice to meet you! My name is Jemma.

I am a bubbly, always excited, easily impressed 32 year old from Australia.

I've spent the past 10 years traveling the world and living in Canada.

To me travel is life and I don't foresee me giving this up to settle for your 'typical' (if there is such a thing) life of having babies, buying a house and going to a job you hate.

To understand me better, read the words of Alan Watts.

Anyway, I've lived in almost every state in Australia. Growing up I basically lived in my parents restaurant - Dad, Chef. Mum, front of house.

I guess you could say this is where my love for food and a passion for the industry came about.

This is also where I feel.in love with writing. Under tables during service, I wrote stories and poems on the back of old menus.

I have a habit of ranting and sometimes over sharing.

I've been described as having an infectious attitude and laugh.

Yes, I love to laugh and have a good joke around.

That's not to say I can't be serious too. I love late night (early morning, mid-afternoon conversations) about life, religion, the universe, science, spirituality, what this all means and unexplainable things.

Wining and dining would be top of my favorite things to do list.

I moved to the Netherlands to indulge in a culture I love and learn more about life living in another country, where English is not the first language.

I enjoy all things games related. Board games and video games.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm traveling long term - it's a great way to network and meet people. We are moving to the Netherlands, what better way to make connections!

Interests

I was psychological science student before leaving Australia, almost a decade ago.
That's when traveling and enjoying new experiences took over - why was I in classroom learning about peope and life when I could experience this first hand.

I am an ambitious writer, I write about food, travel and science fiction.

I really enjoy live music, metal is great but I'm so all over the place with my music taste. One moment I'm listening to Sabbath the next it might be meditation music or 90's pop.

I love meeting new people, I find hearing about others inspires me so much to keep living the life I am no matter how difficult or scary it seems.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything by Douglas Adams. I love science fiction!

Currently reading about ancient civilizations, bit of a conspiracy theory book - I just love that stuff! I think questioning everything is very important.

I really enjoy Ernest Hemingway's writing but his ex-wife Martha Gelhorn is my hero. Lesley Hazelton is a new author I really dig. Her latest book, The First Muslim is fascinating (I enjoy learning and understanding all religions). C.S Lewis is forever a great, as is Tolkien.

Music, this is HUGE. Music is everything to list a few The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Black Sabbath, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Grateful Dead, Led Zepplin, Nirvana, Blind Guardian, The Supremes, Blues Pills, Amon Amarth.... OK I'm just going to stop otherwise this will take all day.

Movies; Almost Famous, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Spirited Away, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Grave of Fireflies, Wedding Singer, The Goonies, Indiana Jones and of course, Star Wars.

And all the cartoons - HUGE anime fan. I'm just a kid, trapped in a kids body.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Making cheese in Sweden at the moment. Lived in several countries. Uhh not so good at talking about my grandness.
Everything I do is amazing :) heh jokes**
