About Me

The glass is half full, actually mostly full! I'm a writer and adventurer, and lived 5 yrs in France, 1 yr in Indonesia and 1 yr in Guatemala. I like hosting events, giving public talks, and generally being engaged. I have lived in eco villages, and like creating inspiring spaces, events, ideas, etc. We need to invent the world we want! My current writing project has to do with climate politics and justice, eco-humanities, inspiring transition examples.

I grew up in a family that hosted lots of friends and guests. I love hosting, and have done it most of my life in different places I have lived. Sadly, for awhile now I'm in a living situation where I cannot host people. (Not allowed to by the building owner.) Crazy housing in SF! Soon I hope to be able to again soon.

I hope to use CS more. It's a catch 22! I will always write reviews for people I stay with, and if you'd write me one it'd be easier for me to try out CS. ; )

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Lots of reasons. One I like to interact with diverse people, a lot.

I'm very conscientious, clean, and caring guest, and generous.

I'm a communally oriented person. I have a lot of experience living with people, I've lived with my partner in large houses arranged around co-housing and shares, an eco village. So I'm conscientious at being a guest as well as host. I also like CS because it embodies some of my beliefs about building social relationships, mutual and a more truly sharing economy.

Interests

I'm involved in a lot of humanities, arts, politics, and culture, in San Francisco. I also like standup comedy, getting out in nature, and spending time with friends and family.

Music, Movies, and Books

Where to start!

Lately I'm wathcing all of Miyazaki's films, reading Solnit's Infinite City: A San Francisco Atlas. and listening to a lot of Thelonius Monk. Like many genres, e.g. good Burning Man like Cheb i sabbah, Bassnectar, ...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done a lot of volunteer teaching and workshops in prisons. Maybe the most amazing experience was teaching an ethics seminar in a maximum security prison.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love cooking and happy to cook for or with you,, I can give private or group yoga sessions or coaching, (I've done yoga myself for 17 yrs), writer, editor, etc. and happy to skill share. I've had a fair amount of experience with many facets of healing: energy work, reiki, cleansing, fasting, biosymbolic healing, etc....

What I Can Share with Hosts

My friends would say I'm conscientious and cool. I'll very clean, considerate, responsible, etc. I'll make you smile and contribute to your place.

I've worked in human rights, journalism editing, writing books, and teaching in academia. I've published in multiple genres. So I can share tips or help with tips in some of those areas. And if you want to know more about not only topics like climate change and energy transition, but inspiring info on what people are doing, I love to talk about it. Lately I've taken back up some electronic and jazz piano, and playing more music with friends....

I have just been noticing I don't have refs. I had a wonderful experience staying with a great host in Hawaii. I think he didn't write a ref bc he is one of those people who hosts 100 people a year and just doesn't have time. I haven't used CS that much, partly bc I have trouble hosting now (due to housing crisis in Sf)... I hope to have a couple refs soon. Meantime I also can show you my Facebook page or other source for reference...
