ABOUT ME
I love traveling. I have a lot of experience traveling in the United States. I decided that I wanted to see my country first before I really started international travel. Granted I thought I would see more of the US much sooner I do think it was a worthwhile goal. The USA's regions are vastly different from one another. I have seen desert, two oceans, volcanoes, great lakes, small and big cities with a lot of personality.
I still have a few (nine) states to experience but have switched my focus to more international travel in recent years. I have sipped beer made by clandestine monks in Belgium, kissed a giraffe in Kenya, and walked the graffiti gallery streets of Sao Paulo.
PHILOSOPHY
"Life is Like the Surf. So Give Yourself to it Like the Sea."
"Go big or go home."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
In the past I hosted by proxy, meaning my roommate handled all the arrangements :). I met so many amazing people in the local couch surfing community in Albany and Troy, local people that hosted and visitors alike.
While living in NYC I decided to open our couch to couch surfers. It had been a great experience to meet new people, hear about their journey, and see our city through the eyes of others. Unfortunately my current apartment is very limiting in allowing guests (NYC building have instated many anti-AirBnB policies) but I am always available for advice, train directions, and a meal.
Interests
I enjoy experiencing art. My preferences are street art and public art however there is a special place in my heart for political modern and contemporary art.
I stay active by running, practicing yoga, hiking, rock climbing, or occasionally roller skating.
When traveling I have noticed a shift in my interests. Long ago I was interested in seeing cities. Now I am more drawn to nature and remote areas. Perhaps the natural world is a more of a experience when leaving the concrete jungle that is New York City...

Music, Movies, and Books
As a past-librarian I have to admit I love a good book. I have a tendency to favor nonfiction books on education and food policy but I will never turn down a good cozy mystery or novel by a beat author. I am very dedicated to my GoodReads account (username is my RoaringWave).
I prefer to watch upbeat, feel-good movies and depressing documentaries.
My preferred genre of music can best be described as low-fi alternative with strong female vocals.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach anyone how to hula hoop.
I am very good at finding out about NYC museum's free or reduced price days. Let me help you plan your museum itinerary!
I am always looking to learn new things. I am particularly interested in languages (though I struggle remembering).
What I Can Share with Hosts
I like to spend relaxed time getting to know my hosts. I am happy to cook a meal and spring for drinks, take a walk, sit in a park. I am pretty low-key.
