About Me

Hello Couchsurfer Community! My name is Jeneil Bamberg and I've known about Couchsurfer for many years, but this is my first foray into the community. Born on a military base in Germany in the '80s, I grew up around the world, first through travel and post assignments with my military family, then from a relatively young age on my own, since I was bitten by the travel bug and it's never let go. I have lived extensively in Japan, China, Germany, the United States, and Uganda and have traveled to approximately 20+ countries in different regions of the world. Currently I've been living in New York for nine years, I work in health care as a director of grants. I'm interested in connecting with people on Couchsurfer for stays in upcoming travels near and far! Hope to meet you soon!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Let's be real, travel is a way of life for me but it gets expensive! I would appreciate safe, comfortable, and friendly Couchsurfer environments as options on some of my travels. I also love connecting with new people around the world and really seeing what local life is like, I'm not someone who needs to see all the tourist attractions because I believe connecting with locals helps to get to the heart of a place.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love pop music from all over the world haha (US: everything, Germany: Mickie Krause, China: TF Boys, Chopstick Brothers, Uganda: Chameleone, Reina, P-Square). Books, pretty much everything, I'm a vociferous reader, but I like fiction and non-fiction, poetry, history, politics, psychology and neurobiology, books on the human connection, and books on spirituality. Movies: I love sci-fi and fiction, dystopia fascinates me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went on my own as Rotary Exchange Student to Japan when I was 17 years old in 2001, for a full year. Now I can do anything!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love languages, let's do a language exchange! I am highly conversationally proficient in Mandarin Chinese and read, speak, and write the language. I spoke German as a child and am looking to regain the language. I've been learning Spanish since the 6th grade, and recently started learning French, and Luganda, the language of the Buganda Kingdom in Uganda. Open to learning other languages as well. I also love cooking a variety of different dishes and am open to learning new recipes, and I love food/restaurants and exploring.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer language exchange, fun and quirky stories from around the world, wine, and I can make different types of foods (mostly on the healthy vegan side, I cook a lot of sesame noodle vegetable-heavy type meals but can cook pastured and organic meat as well).

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand
